Sta. Filomena School of Arts and Trades successfully concluded the Angrad Initiative, a grassroots sports training program designed to nurture young athletesโ growth and achievement, on November 14, 2025. The program provided holistic foundational training aimed at inspiring and developing budding sports talents within the community.
The program, facilitating holistic foundational training, was led by Mr. Alexander Bulusan and Ms. Marlyn Luis Abal, the SK Chairman of Brgy. Sta. Filomena, Calanasan, Apayao.
The event opened with a prayer led by Mr. Bulusan, followed by the National Anthem led by Grade 9 student Ms. Arcelhyne Q. Yanggat, setting a dignified tone for the program's celebration. Ms. Marlyn Luis Abal skillfully served as the master of ceremonies, guiding the program with enthusiasm and community spirit.
Inspirational messages came from key figures including Mr. Herwin Mangrubang, the PSDS of the Upper Calanasan District, who emphasized that sports foster life balance through discipline, teamwork, leadership, and social skills.
Coach Ronnie L. Ramos, specializing in table tennis, reminded the athletes that love, unity, and dedication are essential in sports and praised the difficulties of mastering table tennis while encouraging continuous improvement.
Coach Ruth P. Viernes expressed gratitude towards local officials, school principals, teachers, and especially the athletes for their commitment to trying new sports like taekwondo. She highlighted the program as a โgrassroot for greatness,โ affirming that such initiatives help students discover their full potential beyond expectations.
Similarly, Coach Paulo D. Abello thanked the local government unit for supporting the program and lauded the remarkable progress of both taekwondo and table tennis athletes.
A moving reflection was shared by Joshua Paturay, a student athlete in Taekwondo, who learned key values such as discipline and confidence that he considers essential for success. He also gained technical knowledge in taekwondo terms like poomsae and sparring, deepening his appreciation for the sport.
Barangay Captain Bonifacio Manding delivered the closing message, expressing heartfelt thanks to the LGU of Calanasan, the Sta. Filomena faculty, and the dedicated coaches. He underscored the significance of the program in fostering youth discipline and encouraged continuous implementation of such sports programs for the betterment of the community.
The Angrad Initiative at Sta. Filomena School of Arts and Trades stands as a shining example of how grassroots sports programs can empower young athletes to develop vital life skills, improve social connections, and unlock their potential through dedicated training and community support. This event not only celebrated athletic achievements but also strengthened the resolve to nurture future champions in Calanasan, Apayao.
