- Born on April 19, 1849, into a prominent and wealthy family in Vigan City, Ilocos Sur, Florentino was the first Filipina poet in the Philippines, having written her first poem at the age of 10.
- Florentino is honored as the "Mother of Feminist Literature" in the Philippines. Her skillful delivery of verses earned her the title of a "bridge" from oral tradition to written poetry. Her works were notably lyrical, and she frequently recited them at events like birthday celebrations, anniversaries, and other gatherings.
- Leona died at the age of 35 in Vigan, Ilocos Sur. Her memory is now preserved by a monument and a street in Vigan, and immortalized by the pens of historians and biographers.
