โ€œEven when the night feels long, the light will always find its way back.โ€ ๐ŸŒ™โ˜€๏ธ

On August 15, 1945, after 35 years of Japanese colonial rule, Korea finally saw a new morningโ€”a morning that meant freedom, hope, and the restoration of a nationโ€™s identity. This historic day became known as Gwangbokjeol (๊ด‘๋ณต์ ˆ), Koreaโ€™s National Liberation Day.

The word ๊ด‘๋ณต (Gwangbok) means โ€œrestoration of light.โ€ It represents more than the end of colonial rule. It represents the return of hope and the opportunity for the Korean people to reclaim their language, culture, identity, and future.

For Filipinos, this story may feel especially meaningful. ๐Ÿ‡ต๐Ÿ‡ญ

The Philippines, too, has experienced the long struggle for freedom. Our own history reminds us that independence is not simply a date written on a calendarโ€”it is something people hoped for, fought for, and continued to value through generations.

Although Korea and the Philippines have different histories and different paths toward freedom, both nations understand what it means to long for the right to shape their own future.

And that is what makes Gwangbokjeol meaningful to us as Filipinosโ€”not because it is our independence day, but because it allows us to recognize a feeling that is familiar in our own history: the hope for freedom.

On August 15, the Taegeukgi rises proudly as Korea remembers the day its light returned. ๐Ÿ‡ฐ๐Ÿ‡ทโค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿค

Today, Gwangbokjeol continues to honor the resilience of the Korean people and reminds younger generations that freedom should never be taken for granted. The stories, traditions, language, and culture passed down through generations are living reminders of what was preserved and what was regained.

So, as Filipinos looking toward Koreaโ€™s history, we can remember this:
