The 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐤𝐚𝐝𝐚 𝐊𝐨𝐧𝐭𝐫𝐚 𝐃𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚 (𝐁𝐊𝐃) 𝐎𝐫𝐠𝐚𝐧𝐢𝐳𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 of Unidad National High School implemented a project entitled: “Droga ay Iwasan, Kapaligiran ay Linisan" –a clean up drive project, spearheaded by 𝐃𝐞𝐭𝐞𝐫 𝐀𝐛𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐞, 𝐁𝐊𝐃 𝐏𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐢𝐝𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐉𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐏𝐢𝐚, 𝐁𝐊𝐃 𝐀𝐝𝐯𝐢𝐬𝐞𝐫. This project is one of the BKD Advocacies in promoting safe environment to and for the youth.

The said project was held on Wednesday, June 28, 2023 at exactly 8 o’clock in the morning, at Barangay Unidad Boulevard, Unidad, Cagwait, Surigao del Sur.

The Barkada Kontra Droga Organization headed by the BKD President Deter M. Abarre in a collaborative efforts with the Supreme Student Government, conducted a school-based Discipline on Proper Dress Code and Related Rules and Regulations.

The Barkada Kontra Droga (BKD) organization conducted their 2nd formal meeting this November 4, 2022 together with their adviser Sir Jonard Pia. The BKD officers prepared some activities for those students who are not be able to follow the rules and regulations of our school (I.e.g Earings for boys,Follow the Dress Code Policy etc.)

To***co smoking is the practice of burning to***co and ingesting the smoke that is produced. The smoke may be inhaled, as is done with ci******es, or simply released from the mouth, as is generally done with pipes and ci**rs.

Some Effects of Smoking
• One in two lifetime smokers will die from their habit. Half of these deaths will occur in middle age.

• To***co smoke also contributes to a number of cancers.

• The mixture of ni****ne and carbon monoxide in each cigarette you smoke temporarily increases your heart rate and blood pressure, straining your heart and blood vessels. This can cause heart attacks and stroke. It slows your blood flow, cutting off oxygen to your feet and hands. Some smokers end up having their limbs amputated.

• Tar coats your lungs like soot in a chimney and causes cancer. A 20-a-day smoker breathes in up to a full cup (210 g) of tar in a year.

• Changing to low-tar ci******es does not help because smokers usually take deeper puffs and hold the smoke in for longer, dragging the tar deeper into their lungs.

• Carbon monoxide robs your muscles, brain and body tissue of oxygen, making your whole body and especially your heart work harder. Over time, your airways swell up and let less air into your lungs.

• Lung cancer from smoking is caused by the tar in to***co smoke. Men who smoke are ten times more likely to die from lung cancer than non-smokers

Physical EffectsOther effects of drug addiction include
• heart attack,
• irregular heartbeat,
• contraction of HIV,
• respiratory problems,
• lung cancer,
• abdominal pain,
• kidney damage,
• liver problem,
• brain damage,
• stroke,
• seizures,
• changes in appetite

The emotional effects of drug addiction include .
•mood swings,
•depression,
• violence,
• anxiety,
• decrease in everyday activities, hallucinations
• confusion,
• psychological tolerance to drug effects etcBrain & Liver Damage

The effects of drug addiction are seen in people because the drug floods the brain repeatedly with chemicals such as –serotonin and dopamine.

•The brain becomes highly dependent on these drugs and cannot function without them.

Through participation in a variety of positive activities, it seeks to empower the individual to act as the catalyst among its peer groups in promoting healthy and drug-free living.

Research shows that smoking harms nearly every organ of the body, can cause many diseases, and overall, affects the health of smokers.

This focus on a lot of health issues caused by smoking or being expose to secondhand smoke including:
•Cancer (lung, throat, head and neck, colorectal)
•Heart disease
•Stroke
•Asthma
•Diabetes
•Buerger’s disease
•Gum diseas
•Vision loss and blindness
•Mental health conditions (depression and anxiety)

Over the years the issue of su***de has been slowly increasing. It is now the third leading cause of death among young people. The effects of su***de are tragic and felt long after the individual has taken their own life. Some people who consider su***de, however, never make a “serious” attempt at it. For every attempted su***de, there is said to be more than one person whose thought of su***de has never translated into an actual attempt. Su***de prevention largely targets teenagers in hope to lower the numbers of su***des a year. Depression, anxiety and, stress are the leading causes of adolescent su***de.

The Barkada Kontra Droga Organization of Unidad National High School is here to help combat Su***de attempts of our youth especially to the students of Unidad National High School. Don't worry you're not alone, we always got you and we will always be here for you.
