We are now calling for participants for KUMBIRA 2026! This is an opportunity for you to showcase your talent, skills, creativity, and passion for Hospitality Management.

We encourage all interested students to participate, as well as those who have been personally chosen/recommended by Sir Umbal and Ma’am Daculos to join.

𝗣𝗨𝗡𝗜𝗧𝗜𝗡 𝗔𝗡𝗚 𝗦𝗘𝗗𝗨𝗟𝗔! 🇵🇭✊🏻

On August 23, 1896, members of the Katipunan gathered at Pugad Lawin, identified in accounts as the house, storehouse, and yard of Juan Ramos, son of Melchora Aquino (Tandang Sora). There, the Katipuneros debated whether to begin the uprising against Spanish colonial rule. After the meeting, many tore their cedulas personales, or community tax certificates, as a powerful symbol of breaking their allegiance to Spain.

The act became known as the “Cry,” a term that has been interpreted in several ways: the first clash between the Katipuneros and the Spanish Civil Guards, the tearing of the cedulas, or the patriotic cries declaring resistance and independence. The presentation notes that the phrase “Viva la Independencia Filipina” was also associated with the Cry.

However, the exact date and location of the Cry remain historically contested. Accounts have placed the event on August 20, 23, 24, 25, or 26, 1896, and in places including Balintawak, Pugad Lawin, Kangkong, Bahay Toro, and Pasong Tamo. Pío Valenzuela and historian Teodoro Agoncillo supported August 23, 1896, at Pugad Lawin, while other accounts, including those of Gregorio Zaide and Lt. Olegario Diaz, placed the event in Balintawak on different dates.

Despite the continuing debate, the Cry remains a defining moment in Philippine history—a point when Filipinos moved from resistance toward open rebellion and expressed their determination to break free from Spanish colonial rule. The tearing of the cedula became more than an act of defiance; it became a symbol of unity, courage, patriotism, and the Filipino struggle for independence.

One cedula was torn. A nation’s cry for freedom was heard.

Today, we commemorate the 162nd birth anniversary of Apolinario Mabini, the "Dakilang Lumpo" and the "Utak ng Himagsikan." Through his wisdom, courage, and unwavering love for the nation, he became one of the greatest heroes who shaped the foundation of Philippine independence.

As we honor his remarkable legacy, may his life inspire us to lead with integrity, serve with humility, and remain steadfast in pursuing excellence and patriotism.

Let us continue to embody the values of service, resilience, and leadership that Mabini lived for.

The cross reveals a love that goes beyond words—a love that chose sacrifice so we could receive grace. "For it is by grace you have been saved, through faith—and this is not from yourselves, it is the gift of God" (Ephesians 2:8)

Jesus bore the weight of sin not because we deserved it, but because He loved us deeply and unconditionally. This love calls us to live by faith, to walk in humility, and to extend grace to others just as it was given to us.
