𝐈𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐫𝐬𝐞𝐝 𝐢𝐧 𝐌𝐞𝐝𝐢𝐚: 𝐀 𝐅𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭𝐡𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐋𝐨𝐨𝐤 𝐚𝐭 𝐁𝐫𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐜𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐢𝐧𝐠 𝐚𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐢𝐧𝐞𝐦𝐚

Last March 21, 2026, we, the 1st Year BA Communication students, took part in an Educational Media Tour which provided an opportunity to see first-hand what the media profession is like beyond textbooks and lectures. We toured some of the leading radio stations in Cagayan de Oro: Heart FM 92.7 - Cagayan de Oro City, RMN DXCC, and iFM, CDO. During our tours, we observed live radio broadcasting and the operations of a studio, and were exposed to the exciting pace of each program being produced. Our tours provided a better understanding of how communications principles are put to use.

Next, we toured Hope Channel Southern Philippines Broadcasting, where we learned about the television production industry. We were introduced to the technical and creative processes involved with camera work and studio support to produce programs. The experience highlighted the importance of teamwork, precision, and passion in delivering meaningful content, leaving us inspired as future media practitioners.

We concluded the tour at Ayala Malls Cinema, where we were given the opportunity to observe the cinema’s operating room. Learning about film projection, sound systems, and behind the scenes operations allowed us to appreciate the complexity of creating a seamless viewing experience. Truly, the day was filled with fun, discovery, and valuable insights that strengthened our passion for the field of communication.

We extend our heartfelt gratitude to everyone who made this Educational Media Tour possible. Special thanks to DJs George and Harvey Stone, Station Manager/Network Program Director Mr. Randy Quilos , General Manager Mr. Raul Gomez, and Production Supervisor Mr. Jason Steele for sharing their expertise and welcoming us into their stations.
We also thank News Director Ms. Menzi Montes and Engr. Ursing Gales of RMN DXCC, as well as Ms. Charm Senining of Hope Channel, for guiding us throughout the visit.

We are equally grateful to Ms. Bing Laying, Cinema Manager, and the Head Security Guard of Ayala Malls Cinema for accommodating us during our final stop. Above all, we sincerely thank our instructor, Direk Joe Bacus, for leading and organizing this meaningful and to our Dean of College of Arts and Sciences Dr. Salvador Dela Peña, and Languages Chairperson Ginang Rebecca Hilot for allowing this activity to happen with a knowledge-filled experience.

The journey of creating Aninaw wasn’t just about the final film. It was about the countless hours, the challenges, and the time pressure that tested our team every step of the way. Through long nights of planning, rehearsing, and shooting, our organization’s bond only grew stronger as everyone gave their best effort. Every scene captured was a testament to our dedication, perseverance, and teamwork:

𝗖𝗮𝗽𝘁𝘂𝗿𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗚𝗼𝗹𝗱: 𝗕𝗔 𝗖𝗼𝗺𝗺𝘂𝗻𝗶𝗰𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻’𝘀 𝗗𝘂𝗮𝗹 𝗧𝗿𝗶𝘂𝗺𝗽𝗵 𝗶𝗻 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗺𝗺𝗮𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴

The cinematic prowess of the BA Communication department was on full display, as not one but two student-led films were shown and secured prestigious victories during Cinematuod 2026 on February 26. The sweep marks a historic moment for the Communication Students, reinforcing its reputation as a powerhouse for nurturing storytellers and technical masters.

The festival had its final film screening in its 3-day run and had its awards showcasing the seven short films submitted by young and aspiring filmmakers. Two of these films featured the work of BA Communication students, with Aninaw directed by Khim Andrea Dacer and Sayd Kwes by Christian Tagaylo.

Aninaw swept the festival, taking the Best Film, Best Actor (Chean Andrew Galudo), Best Director (Khim Andrea Dacer), Best Cinematography, and Best Production Design.

While Sayd Kwes won the Jury Prize, including Best Screenplay, and the Audience Choice Award.

These wins have not only brought pride but have also inspired others to keep creating, keep filming, and keep telling stories that matter.

Cheers sounded as the CAS ICON took place on February 27, 2026, at EAC ROOM 201, with Mary Therese Bernadeth Sagario emerging as the Ms. CAS ICON 2nd Runner Up as well as taking the Most Photogenic from BA COMMUNICATION.

Huge congratulations are in order for Mary Therese Sagario, whose performance throughout the event was nothing short of mesmerizing. From the poise of the opening number to the thoughtful, articulate responses during the Q&A session, she proved that true beauty is anchored in substance.

While the spotlight often shines brightest on crowns, the evening would not have been complete without the courageous participation of our Mr. Cas Icon Communication candidate, Daniel John Pallugna.

This was a celebration of unity, talent, and the pursuit of excellence. The Liceo Communication Circle congratulates its CAS ICON candidates for their stellar performance.
