WHY SHOULD WE WEAR THE BROWN SCAPULAR? | The Brown Scapular is not a lucky charm or a magical object. Rather, it is a sign of our devotion to the Blessed Virgin Mary and our commitment to follow Christ. By wearing it faithfully, we entrust ourselves to Mary's maternal care, open our hearts to the graces she obtains for us, and seek her protection against sin and temptation.

As Carmelite tradition teaches, the Brown Scapular is a symbol of Our Lady's constant presence and loving intercession. It reminds us to remain in God's grace, to return to Him whenever we fall, and to persevere faithfully until the end. As Father P. Gabriele of St. Mary Magdalene, O.C.D., writes in Divine Intimacy, "The Blessed Virgin gives the assurance of the supreme grace of final perseverance to all who wear worthily her little habit."

Devoutly wearing the Brown Scapular close to our heart calls us to live the Gospel, keep God's commandments, and imitate the virtues of the Blessed Mother. More than an outward sign, it is a daily reminder of our vocation to holiness and our desire to belong ever more fully to Christ through the loving care of Our Lady of Mount Carmel.
