The City College of Cagayan de Oro congratulates Mr. Jason O. Herrera, Instructor of the College of Education, for passing the August 2026 Certified Plant Mechanics Licensure Examination (CPMLE).

This marks his second licensure examination success in 2026, following his successful passing of the March 2026 Electronics Technicians Licensure Examination.

His dedication to continuous professional development exemplifies the pursuit of excellence that CCCDO seeks to cultivate among its faculty and students.

College of Education, celebrates Buwan ng Wika 2026.

AI as a Tool, Filipino Identity as the Guide: COEd Dean Highlights the Role of Language and Culture

As Artificial Intelligence (AI) continues to become part of education and everyday life, the College of Education reminded students that technology should not replace the values and identity that make them Filipino.

During the Lakan at Lakambini ng Wika 2026, Dr. Liza Chua, Dean of the College of Education, shared a message that placed language, culture, and identity at the center of using modern technology.

“Maaaring gamitin natin ang AI bilang kasangkapan, ngunit ang ating wika, kultura, pagpapahalaga, at pagkakakilanlan ang nagbibigay-kahulugan sa kung paano natin ito gagamitin.”

For Dr. Chua, AI can be a helpful tool in learning, research, and sharing information. However, she stressed that technology alone does not determine how it should be used.

The Filipino language, culture, values, and identity remain important guides, especially at a time when information can easily be created and accessed through technology.

The message also reflected the theme of the Buwan ng Wika celebration: “Wikang Filipino at AI: Kasangkapan sa Pananaliksik at Tulay sa Yaman ng Impormasyon.”

While AI can help students find and understand information, Dr. Chua’s message serves as a reminder that students must still think carefully and use technology responsibly. The value of knowledge does not only come from how fast information is found, but also from how it is understood and used.

Beyond the celebration of beauty and talent, the Lakan at Lakambini ng Wika 2026 became a platform to recognize the deeper meaning of being Filipino.
