The first private and the only Catholic educational institution in Bugo came into existence when the Columbian Missionaries through Fr. Oliver Whyte, SSC took over the administration of the Gonzales-Remo Institution of Technology owned by the late Mrs. Enriquita Remo who opened the said institution for one school year (1971-1972). In June, 1972 the school was renamed SACRED HEART ACADEMY honoring

the parish patron Sagrado Corazon de Jesus. Government recognition for the secondary department was granted #65 June 27, 1977. The institution has its humble beginnings in terms of facilities and infrastructure. In 1976 the Columbian Missionaries erected a semi-concrete multi-purpose center where classes, religious and social functions of the school and parish were conducted. The Columbian Father's faithfully served their constituents for more than ten years and were responsible for the institution's foundation of the secondary department, before they were recalled back to Ireland for a new mission. In May 1986, the administration of the school was turned over to the congregation of the Religious Sisters of Mercy through the request of the late Archbishop Patrick Cronin, DD. An Irish Columbian missionary who was then archbishop of Cagayan de Oro City invited the Religious Sisters of Mercy (RSM) to administer the school. Assumpta hayes, RSM as its first School Directress. From then on periodic repairs and improvement in physical plant and facilities and regular assessment and development in the faculty and instruction have been the major concern of the administration in response to the demands of the increasing population. Today, the Pre-school and the elementary department were added to existing High school levels.

Congratulations SHA-SCOUTS ⚜️ for successfully completing ESTC 2026! Your dedication, teamwork, perseverance, and commitment to the ideals of Scouting have led you to this remarkable achievement. May the lessons and experiences gained during the training inspire you to become even better leaders and servants of your community.
