Engr. Fernandez, representing the Center for AI, attended the MOA signing alongside Dr. Ambrosio B. Cultura II, USTP System President, who expressed full support for the project. The DOST-PCIEERD Grand MOA Signing was held last October 17, 2024, at the Sheraton Hotel, Manila. This yearโs event marked the approval of over 70 projects, with a total funding of P935 million allocated to cutting-edge research and technological advancements.
Among these approved initiatives is the Nexus for Advanced Risk Reduction and Analytics System for the Philippine National Police - Cagayan de Oro City Police Office (PNP-COCPO), led by Engr. Jodie Rey D. Fernandez, head of USTPโs Center for AI. The project exemplifies the Centerโs focus on developing AI-driven solutions that enhance public safety and streamline law enforcement operations. This system will integrate AI and data analytics for real-time monitoring, GPS tracking, and resource management, providing the PNP-COCPO with state-of-the-art tools to improve efficiency and effectiveness in maintaining public safety.
Engr. Fernandez noted that the inclusion of the Centerโs AI project in this prestigious lineup affirms USTPโs leadership in AI research and its potential for transforming public service operations. The Center for AI has been steadily building a reputation as a key player in the application of AI technologies across different fields, and this latest approval serves as further validation of its impact. By focusing on practical applications of AI, the Center is pushing boundaries in research that can lead to real-world advancements. The Nexus project, which will be implemented in partnership with the PNP-COCPO, is a prime example of how the Centerโs work is aligned with national priorities.
As the Center for AI at USTP continues to lead pioneering efforts in AI application, its collaboration with DOST and other government agencies demonstrates the crucial role academic institutions play in shaping the countryโs technological future.
