The existence of the Nerona clan is no secret to those who live in the One Piece world. The family name of Nerona was first mentioned by Emporio Ivankov after Sabo unmasked Imu's identity to him and Dragon. According to Ivankov, the Nerona clan was once one of the Founding 20 that created the World Government and swore an oath of equality in front of the Empty Throne. However, no more details about those of the Nerona have been provided since. It can be assumed that to this day the Nerona family runs deep within the ranks of the Celestial Dragons. In One Piece chapter 1179, Eiichiro Oda unveiled the very first member of the Nerona family, that being Saint Nerona Imu, who serves as the King of the World and is also the main villain of the entire story. Up until now, the Nerona Clan was only briefly mentioned in the story, but now, Oda has finally unveiled the first member of the clan, adding to the incredible lore of the Void Century and building up to the dramatic battle between Joy Boy and him that will be explored later down the line.

Luffy is not ready to defeat Imu yet, and the story may be setting that up clearly. The hype around Monkey D. Luffy in Gear 5 makes it seem like he has already reached the peak, with his Sun God imagery, cartoon-like abilities, and Yonko-level presence. However, a closer look at the narrative suggests otherwise.
Imu represents a completely different level of threat, with unknown abilities, unconventional attacks, and 800 years of hidden control over the world. In contrast, Luffy still has clear limitations: he becomes exhausted after using Gear 5, his stamina is not sustainable for prolonged battles, and he relies more on bursts of power than consistent mastery.
From a storytelling perspective, this gap is important. If Luffy were already equal to Imu, the final conflict in One Piece would lose its tension and buildup. The series has always developed its major climaxes gradually, and this moment appears to follow that same pattern.
Elbaf may serve not as a final triumph, but as a crucial turning point where Luffy realizes he still needs to grow stronger before facing the true end of the story. The most logical conclusion is that Luffy will undergo at least one more evolution before he can stand on equal ground with Imu.

One Piece Producers: "Find the Money" Oda Refused to Compromise
The producers of One Piece revealed that almost every detail had to be approved by Eiichiro Oda, and he wasn't willing to compromise.
"Sometimes he'd say, 'no, put that back in.' We'd tell him we didn't have the budget, and he'd reply, 'find the money. And we did."
According to the team, scenes were sometimes planned to be cut due to budget limits, but Oda insisted on keeping what he felt was important.
He was very hands-on as an executive producer, overseeing the characters, story, and tone to keep the adaptation faithful to the manga.
This is one of the main reasons the live-action was praised for staying true to the original
