This National Heroes Day, we honor the Filipinos who courageously shaped our nation through their sacrifices, principles, and service. But as we remember the heroes whose names are etched in our history books, let us also recognize the everyday heroes who continue to shape the future โ€” our teachers.

Teachers may not carry swords or stand on battlefields, but every day they fight a different kind of battle: against ignorance, inequality, discouragement, and the limitations that keep young minds from reaching their potential.

They teach more than lessons. They nurture dreams, build character, inspire courage, and empower generations to become better citizens and future leaders. Behind every doctor, engineer, lawyer, artist, leader, and even every teacher is someone who once believed in them enough to teach them.

Today, we remember the heroes who fought for the freedom we have โ€” and we celebrate the teachers who continue to fight for the future we are building.

To our national heroes, salamat sa sakripisyo. To our teachers, salamat sa patuloy na paghubog ng isang bansang may pag-asa.

Happy National Heroes Day!

Every meaningful journey begins with a single step, and on August 15, 2026, the journey of learning, guidance, and service officially began for ๐—š๐—œ๐—ฌ๐—” ๐—ฆ๐—” ๐—–๐—”๐—ก๐—ข๐—ฆ๐—ฆ๐—”.

From 8:00 AM to 12:00 NN, the first session of the program was held through a meaningful Welcoming Program, bringing together the volunteer tutors and the scholars of Canossa Center-Based Childrenโ€™s Care for the beginning of what we hope will be a meaningful and inspiring journey of learning.

The first session of GIYA SA CANOSSA was proudly spearheaded by the College of Education Student Body Organization (CESBO) through the CESBO Department of Community Engagement and Extension Services (CESBO-DCEES). The project was headed by Jolie Mae Vacalares, CESBO Vice President for External Affairs and CESBO-DCEES Department Head, serving as the Project Head, with Kevin John Jamito, CESBO Vice President for Internal Affairs and Cabinet Secretary, serving as the Assistant Project Head.

The session was made possible through the collaborative efforts of the CESBO-DCEES associates, CESBO officers, and other individuals who contributed to the planning, coordination, and implementation of the initiative.

The welcoming program served as an opportunity for the volunteer tutors and scholars to get to know one another and begin building the connections that will make every future tutoring session more meaningful. The morning was filled with introductions, energizing activities, educational games, and breakout sessions designed to engage learners from different year levels.

More than simply marking the opening of the tutoring program, the first session aimed to create a safe, welcoming, and encouraging learning environment where every scholar can feel supported and inspired. It also gave our volunteer tutors โ€” future educators โ€” the opportunity to extend their knowledge, passion, and skills beyond the four walls of the classroom while responding to the learning needs of the children in the community.

Through GIYA SA CANOSSA, we believe that education becomes even more meaningful when it is shared. As this journey continues, every session will serve as an opportunity not only to teach lessons but also to build confidence, nurture dreams, and inspire young learners to continue pursuing their education.

This is only the beginning. There are still many lessons to learn, stories to share, and young minds to guide along the way.
