Oplan Sakay 2.0 - Our very own USTP CDO LSI students who opted to go home were finally home...
Students who sought help and assistance to go home were assisted by our University. We are very grateful to our benefactor for her generous financial assistance to these students, Ms Margie Beltran from the Presidential Management Staff of Region X, Office of the President of the Philippines for coordinating with the LGUs, Medical Unit for assisting in the medical certificates and all the concerned government offices in assisting our students.

“Kung dili mi magpadayon sa among trabaho, walay manglimpyo, mosamot kahugaw, mas prone na nuon sa COVID.” – Everjame Sanchez, USTP Utility Worker.
Everjame is one of the utility workers assigned to sanitize the place where USTP hosts the LSIs. He said that he has feelings of anxiety while doing his job. He also experienced some subtle form of discrimination from his family because of his exposure to the LSIs, but he shrugged this off because he needs to perform his duty.
One day, an LSI from Zamboanga approached Everjame and offered to help in the disinfection job in exchange for a small amount of money to buy some basic needs. Everjame saw the authenticity of that person’s appeal, so he passed the hat among his colleagues and was able to raise 300 pesos for that LSI! These are heartwarming stories of ordinary people rising up to the challenge to help others. As human beings, we have an untapped reservoir of kindness, and sometimes, difficult situations like the pandemic can unlock and illuminate it. In this context, you do not have to be a millionaire to help, all you need are a million reasons to help.
Every day, we hear stories of the heroic deeds of medical frontline workers, but there are other frontliners who also risk their lives for those affected by the pandemic – our USTP cleaning warriors!
USTP has opened its doors to the LSIs while they wait to be fetched by their local government units. We provide temporary shelter and food, and above all, we showed them kindness and compassion when they needed it the most.
