“Application of the Integrated Watershed Health Assessment Framework (IWHF) to Assess Vulnerability and Prioritise Resilience Strategies under Future Stressors in the Nan River Basin.”

This study applies the Integrated Watershed Health Assessment Framework to evaluate basin-wide conditions, identify vulnerable sub-basins, and prioritize restoration under future climate and land-use scenarios. The findings provide a robust basis for evidence-based watershed management and climate resilience planning in Southeast Asia.

“Mild Steel Corrosion Inhibition by Aqueous and Ethanolic 𝘎𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢 Leaf Extracts Prepared via Ultrasound-Assisted Extraction.”

This study highlights the potential of plant-based extracts as green corrosion inhibitors, demonstrating that 𝘎𝘮𝘦𝘭𝘪𝘯𝘢 𝘢𝘳𝘣𝘰𝘳𝘦𝘢—particularly its ethanolic extract—exhibits high inhibition efficiency against mild steel corrosion in acidic environments. The findings reinforce the role of sustainable and eco-friendly approaches in addressing industrial corrosion challenges.

The article is published in the Mindanao Journal of Science and Technology, a Scopus-indexed journal.

The University of Science and Technology of Southern Philippines (USTP) proudly celebrates the outstanding achievement of one of its own — 𝐌𝐫. 𝐍𝐞𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐯𝐞 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐀𝐠𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐨, a faculty member of the 𝐃𝐞𝐩𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐨𝐟 𝐂𝐡𝐞𝐦𝐢𝐬𝐭𝐫𝐲, whose recent research accomplishments have brought pride and prestige to the university.

As a researcher, Mr. Agosto has already made a remarkable impact on the scientific community. His research publication, “𝑇ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑣𝑎𝑙𝑢𝑎𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑜𝑓 𝐶𝑖𝑡𝑟𝑢𝑠 𝑏𝑒𝑟𝑔𝑎𝑚𝑖𝑎 𝑃ℎ𝑦𝑡𝑜𝑐ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙𝑠 𝑎𝑠 𝑃𝑜𝑡𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝐶ℎ𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑠𝑡𝑒𝑟𝑜𝑙-𝐿𝑜𝑤𝑒𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝐴𝑔𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑠 𝑎𝑔𝑎𝑖𝑛𝑠𝑡 𝐻𝑀𝐺-𝐶𝑜𝐴 𝑅𝑒𝑑𝑢𝑐𝑡𝑎𝑠𝑒: 𝐴𝑛 𝑖𝑛 𝑆𝑖𝑙𝑖𝑐𝑜 𝑀𝑜𝑙𝑒𝑐𝑢𝑙𝑎𝑟 𝐷𝑜𝑐𝑘𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑆𝑡𝑢𝑑𝑦,” has been recognized as one of the 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟒 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐯𝐢𝐞𝐰𝐞𝐝 and 𝐓𝐨𝐩 𝟔 𝐦𝐨𝐬𝐭 𝐝𝐨𝐰𝐧𝐥𝐨𝐚𝐝𝐞𝐝 papers on its platform over the past 12 months.

The study utilizes computer-aided methods to evaluate the cholesterol-lowering potential of phytochemicals from Citrus bergamia, identifying eight compounds with stronger binding affinities to HMG-CoA reductase than the commonly used drug atorvastatin. The publication has also received its 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐜𝐢𝐭𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧 from a Scopus-indexed journal—a significant milestone for any researcher, especially one just beginning their journey.

Further showcasing his collaborative spirit and growing academic influence, Mr. Agosto also co-authored his 𝐟𝐢𝐫𝐬𝐭 𝐒𝐜𝐨𝐩𝐮𝐬-𝐢𝐧𝐝𝐞𝐱𝐞𝐝 𝐫𝐞𝐬𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐡 𝐩𝐚𝐩𝐞𝐫 in partnership with international researchers. The study, “𝐸𝑥𝑝𝑙𝑜𝑟𝑖𝑛𝑔 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐶ℎ𝑒𝑚𝑖𝑐𝑎𝑙 𝐶𝑜𝑚𝑝𝑜𝑠𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑜𝑛 𝑎𝑛𝑑 𝐵𝑖𝑜𝑎𝑐𝑡𝑖𝑣𝑖𝑡𝑖𝑒𝑠 𝑜𝑓 𝑡ℎ𝑒 𝐸𝑠𝑠𝑒𝑛𝑡𝑖𝑎𝑙 𝑂𝑖𝑙 𝑜𝑓 𝑃𝑖𝑝𝑒𝑟 𝑟𝑜𝑠𝑡𝑟𝑎𝑡𝑢𝑚 𝑅𝑜𝑥𝑏”, reports on the oil’s antioxidant, acetylcholinesterase, and lipoxygenase inhibitory activities. These findings highlight its potential as a natural source for developing treatments targeting oxidative stress, Alzheimer’s disease, and inflammation. This publication, too, has already received its first citation from a Scopus-indexed source.

Mr. Agosto’s early success exemplifies the caliber of researchers nurtured at USTP. His achievements not only reflect his own dedication and brilliance but also underscore the growing research culture within the university.
