Spain is the world’s leading producer of olive oil, and in Jaén, Andalusia, millions of olive trees stretch across the landscape—creating what is famously known as the “Sea of Olives.” 🫒🌊

The Co-operative College of the Philippines culminated the 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗖𝗢𝗗𝗣): 𝗦𝘂𝘀𝘁𝗮𝗶𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗟𝗲𝗴𝗮𝗰𝘆 𝗧𝗵𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗴𝗵 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗖𝗼𝗻𝘁𝗶𝗻𝘂𝗶𝘁𝘆 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 San Dionisio Credit Cooperative on August 15, 2026, bringing together meaningful conversations and reflections on Succession Planning and the importance of preparing the cooperative’s next generation of leaders.

Throughout the program, participants gained a deeper understanding that succession planning is not an overnight process—it takes time, intentional development, the sharing of institutional knowledge, and continuous effort to prepare the right people for future responsibilities.

𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟭 𝗛𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗟𝗜𝗚𝗛𝗧𝗦 𝗼𝗳 𝗖𝗢𝗗𝗣 𝘄𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗦𝗗𝗖𝗖 𝗼𝗻 𝗦𝘂𝗰𝗰𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻 𝗣𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

Today, the Co-operative College of the Philippines conducted 𝗗𝗮𝘆 𝟭 𝗼𝗳 𝘁𝗵𝗲 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗢𝗿𝗴𝗮𝗻𝗶𝘇𝗮𝘁𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗗𝗲𝘃𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗣𝗿𝗼𝗴𝗿𝗮𝗺 (𝗖𝗢𝗗𝗣) with San Dionisio Credit Cooperative (SDCC) at their Head Office, focusing on 𝐒𝐮𝐜𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐬𝐢𝐨𝐧 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐧𝐧𝐢𝐧𝐠 and the importance of preparing the cooperative’s future leaders.

The session guided participants through the importance of preparing future successors, board members, and officers while reflecting on the responsibilities that come with leadership and the values needed to lead people effectively.

“We learned that succession planning is about preparing future successors and possible future board members and officers of SDCC. If you want to be a leader, you have to ask yourself: Are you willing to face problems? Are you willing to solve them? Do you have people? It takes a certain level of love and patience for people to achieve that. Succession is one of the ways to make our cooperative sustainable and successful.”

Day 1 served as a meaningful step toward building a stronger leadership pipeline and ensuring SDCC’s continued sustainability and success.

𝗗𝗔𝗬 𝟮 | 𝗖𝗨𝗟𝗠𝗜𝗡𝗔𝗧𝗜𝗢𝗡 🪙

As the 𝗖𝗼𝗼𝗽𝗲𝗿𝗮𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲 𝗙𝗶𝗻𝗮𝗻𝗰𝗲 𝗳𝗼𝗿 𝗦𝗲𝗻𝗶𝗼𝗿 𝗘𝘅𝗲𝗰𝘂𝘁𝗶𝘃𝗲𝘀 program comes to a close, participants reflect on two days of learning, discussion, and practical insights on how financial management can strengthen cooperative performance and sustainability.

💬 “Financial analysis gives us a clearer picture of our cooperative’s performance. It helps us identify areas that need improvement and greater efficiency. We learned that there are different financial analysis models and approaches, and that we can use different methods depending on our cooperative’s needs and available data. More importantly, we learned to look beyond the numbers—to understand the story behind them, how they were generated, and what they mean for our cooperative. Financial data, when combined with practical management perspectives, gives us a stronger basis for sound decision-making.”

💬 “For cooperatives engaged in lending, balancing competitiveness and sustainability is essential. We need to offer competitive and affordable interest rates so we can better serve our members, while also making sure that our cooperative can sustain its operations. One approach is to offer different loan products with varying interest rates, matching these rates with their respective sources of funds. This allows us to respond to our members’ financing needs while managing our cost of funds and maintaining financial viability.”

These reflections capture an important lesson from the program: financial stewardship is ultimately about making responsible choices for members, the cooperative, and the community. By strengthening financial understanding and decision-making, cooperative leaders can uphold transparency, accountability, member concern, and concern for community while building cooperatives that remain financially sound and sustainable.

Congratulations to all our participants for completing the Cooperative Finance for Senior Executives program! May the knowledge gained over these two days translate into wiser decisions, stronger financial performance, and greater service to the cooperative movement.

From identifying and assessing risks to preparing for disruption, responding effectively, and learning from experience, 𝗿𝗶𝘀𝗸 𝗺𝗮𝗻𝗮𝗴𝗲𝗺𝗲𝗻𝘁 𝗯𝗲𝗰𝗼𝗺𝗲𝘀 𝗮 𝗹𝗲𝗮𝗱𝗲𝗿𝘀𝗵𝗶𝗽 𝗿𝗲𝘀𝗽𝗼𝗻𝘀𝗶𝗯𝗶𝗹𝗶𝘁𝘆.
