For cooperatives, this presents an opportunity to strengthen long-term sustainability, reduce operating costs, and create greater value for members. As cooperatives continue to champion economic participation, concern for community, and sustainable development, understanding renewable energy is becoming more important than ever.

The DOE's Philippine Energy Plan targets 15.3 GW of new solar installations by 2030 โ nearly 10 times the current installed solar capacity.
As of June 2025, the Philippines had generated 22% of its power from renewable sources. The target is 35% by 2030. The gap is real โ and closing it requires rapid, distributed deployment.
Here's why cooperatives matter in this equation:
โ
Electric cooperatives serve the rural areas where land is available for solar farms
โ
Multi-purpose cooperatives can participate in community solar arrangements
โ
Credit cooperatives can support member financing for solar panel installation
โ
Cooperative networks can pool resources and expertise to help accelerate adoption
The solar buildout the Philippines needs won't happen through large utilities alone. It needs distributed, community-based champions.
That's what cooperatives are built to be.
And by helping expand access to clean, affordable, and sustainable energy, cooperatives are also advancing Concern for Communityโcreating long-term benefits not only for their members, but for future generations as well.

Many cooperatives have Gender and Development (GAD) policies, programs, and compliance mechanisms in place. But how effective are they in creating meaningful and lasting inclusion?
The Inclusion Advancement Program provides an opportunity for cooperative leaders and practitioners to assess their current GAD frameworks, identify strengths and gaps, and explore practical strategies to strengthen inclusion across their organizations.
Grounded in the cooperative values of equity, equality, and solidarity, this program helps cooperatives move beyond compliance and toward measurable impactโensuring that every member has the opportunity to participate, contribute, and thrive.
