On December 14–15, 2025, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna (Mapúa MCL), through its Office for Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement (OSPGE) and Alumni Center, successfully carried out its annual community engagement and service-learning initiative with the Aeta community in Porac, Pampanga.

As part of the Community Engagement Series, SamaKatutubo: Hearts and Minds for the Aetas, Mapúa MCL alumni, administrators, faculty, staff, security personnel, and student volunteers came together to serve 120 families and over 800 children. The program featured grocery package distribution, a feeding program, and interactive activities designed to bring joy and foster meaningful connections within the community.

This initiative aligns with the United Nations' Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 1 (No Poverty), 2 (Zero Hunger), and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).

🌟Behind the Service🤝

“Do it scared, do it anyway.” I used to overthink volunteering as well. I wondered if I’d fit in, if I’d do things right, or if my effort would even matter. But the moment I finally showed up, something in me opened.

Watching everyone move with purpose, laughing through the work, and choosing to care even when we’re tired, there’s something special in that.

You don’t need to be fully ready to begin. You don’t need to have everything figured out. You just need that small spark of wanting to help. And if you’re already thinking about volunteering, that spark is already there.

We shine the spotlight on Dylan Alessandra E. Francisco, a second-year student in the B.S. Psychology program, who reminds us that courage isn’t about having no fear—it’s about showing up anyway.

On December 12, 2025, Mapúa Malayan Colleges Laguna, through its Office for Strategic Partnerships and Global Engagement (OSPGE) and Alumni Center, successfully carried out a meaningful community outreach program at Pulong Mindanao Elementary School (PMES) in Barangay Tungkod, Sta. Maria, Laguna. This initiative, part of the Community Engagement Series titled RISE: Renewable Initiatives for School Empowerment, aimed to foster educational support and strengthen partnerships that empower both students and teachers.

PMES faces severe challenges as one of the country's last-mile schools. To reach the school each day, students and teachers must undertake a challenging journey over steep mountain trails, which involves crossing eight separate rivers. This challenging topography not only tests their dedication but also hinders outside assistance, meaning vital aid and essential services seldom reach the community.

Consequently, students' education is suffering from a lack of basic resources, including learning materials, electricity, and safe drinking water. The community's limited access to these necessities is jeopardizing the students' prospects for a better future.

Through a meaningful blend of feeding programs, fun games and activities, and grocery package sharing organized by Mapúa MCL students, administrators, staff, and security personnel, the institution sought to bring joy, nourishment, and renewed hope to a resilient community that continues to thrive despite the challenges of limited resources.

This initiative marked Mapual MCL's commitment to providing a sustainable solution and helping ease the challenges faced by the students and teachers of PMES.

This initiative directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 2: Zero Hunger, SDG 4: Quality Education, and SDG 17: Partnerships for the Goals.

🌟Behind the Service🤝

I have always carried a deep commitment to helping others, in whatever form and capacity I can. Whether it’s uplifting an individual or contributing to the well-being of a community, I’ve never hesitated to give my time and effort. Growing up as a woman who worked hard for everything I have today, I understand the value of every peso and every minute. This perspective continually drives me to serve with purpose, empathy, and integrity. Most especially, I love seeing the smiles of the people I get to meet and help. Their gratitude becomes a powerful reminder that every effort, no matter how small, has the potential to create meaningful change.

"This is so much more than just volunteering; it’s my calling to share the grace and blessings God has entrusted to me."

We shine the spotlight on Althea Klarise L. Hernandez, a first-year student in the Bachelor of Multimedia Arts program — a true example of purpose-driven service and grace in action.

🌟Behind the Service🤝

Ever since I started volunteering in junior high as an Altar Server and continued doing various volunteer activities in college, I’ve learned that volunteering requires patience, adaptability, and sincerity. Balancing it with academics and personal responsibilities isn’t always easy, and there are moments when burnout or time constraints become overwhelming. Yet despite all the unseen challenges, the fulfillment always outweighs the struggle. The gratitude, meaningful connections, sense of purpose, and opportunity to grow as a person make everything worthwhile.

"At its core, true volunteerism is driven by genuine kindness and the desire to help—not for recognition, but because even the smallest act can make a difference."

This International Volunteer Day 2025, we shine the spotlight on Leila Arrabela C. Diaz, a fourth-year B.S. Psychology student, whose dedication to service exemplifies what it truly means to give back.

Milagrosa, Calamba City, Laguna, as part of their outreach initiative Kasaysayan, Kultura at Sikolohiya: A Community Link with the Aeta Community.

This initiative directly aligns with the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) 3 (Good Health and Well-Being) and 10 (Reduced Inequalities).
