CABARROGUIS, QUIRINO โ Age is no longer a barrier to learning in the digital world as senior citizens gathered at the Quirino State University (QSU)โCabarroguis Campus on August 28, 2026, for a computer literacy training aimed at strengthening their digital skills, confidence, and participation in an increasingly technology-driven society.
Held in partnership with the Provincial Government of Quirino, the activity carried the theme โEmpowering Seniors: A Bridge to a Connected Digital World.โ The training, titled โComputer Literacy for Senior Citizens: Computer Operations Enhancement Using MS Excel and MS Word Plus AI in the Workplace,โ provided participants with practical knowledge on basic computer operations, MS Word, MS Excel, and the use of artificial intelligence (AI) tools.
The activity brought together officials and representatives from the Provincial Government of Quirino and QSUโCabarroguis Campus, reflecting a shared commitment to empowering senior citizens through accessible and relevant learning opportunities. The program opened with an invocation and the singing of the Philippine National Anthem. Ms. Aurea V. Martinez, Chief Tourism Operations Officer, delivered the opening and welcome remarks. Inspirational messages were also delivered by Hon. Jojo Vaquilar, Provincial Vice Governor, and Hon. Roseller A. Escobar, Sangguniang Panlalawigan Member. Dr. Ariel A. Lagunilla, Campus Administrator of QSUโCabarroguis Campus, likewise delivered a message expressing support for the initiative.
Serving as trainers were the faculty members of the Bachelor of Science in Computer Science Department. They led the training proper focusing on practical computer applications that can help senior citizens perform tasks more efficiently and confidently. The introduction of AI also gave participants an opportunity to understand how emerging technologies can complement their existing skills and support productivity in the workplace and in everyday activities.
More than a computer training, the activity demonstrated the value of partnership between the academe and local government in responding to the changing needs of the community. Through the collaboration of QSUโCabarroguis Campus and the Provincial Government of Quirino, senior citizens were given an avenue to learn, adapt, and actively participate in the digital age. The initiative reinforces the message that learning has no age limitโand that everyone deserves a place in the connected digital world.
