Quirino State University (QSU) made a strong showing at the 2026 International Educators Summit organized by the United Federation of Fil-Am Educators, Inc. (UNIFFIED), hauling multiple institutional and research awards that highlight the institution's growing academic footprint held at the Limketkai Luxe Hotel, Cagayan de Oro City, August 14 to 17.

Headlined by OIC University President Dr. Romiro Bautista, the QSU delegation dominated various categories ranging from visionary leadership to cutting-edge scientific and educational research.

Dr. Bautista led the delegation by bagging the Visionary Leadership in Higher Education Award under the Changemakers Awards. Aside from this, he also played a critical role in the summit's academic proceedings, serving as a judge for the STEM Strand session and sharing insights as a resource speaker on the topic, โ€œAdvancing and Leading Educational Change: How Educators Transform Schools and Communities.โ€

Meanwhile, Assistant Professor IV Dr. Evelyn Casareno was honored with the Outstanding Leadership in Community Service Award under the Educational Leadership Awards.

Dr. Casareno was also conferred the Gawad Lingkod (International Service Award), marking 15 years of dedicated service to education.

Ina-Mae Natividad, a BEEd instructor, mirrored this community-focused distinction by receiving the Outstanding Leadership in Community Service Award alongside Dr. Casareno.

Natividad also made waves in the research arena, clinching 3rd Best Presenter for HUMMS for her qualitative study exploring the career transitions of licensed elementary education graduates into non-teaching roles abroad.

BSCE Instructor Wilfredo Baniqued emerged as one of the summitโ€™s standout researchers, securing multiple accolades for QSUโ€™s engineering and pedagogical studies.

Baniqued took home the Excellence in Research and Innovation award under the Innovation and Excellence Awards. His study, โ€œTemporalโ€“Spatial Mapping of COโ‚‚ and Indoor Air Quality at Quirino State Universityโ€“Cabarroguis Campus,โ€ earned the Best Abstract for STEM A and finished as the 2nd Best Presenter for the same research. Baniqued co-authored the indoor air quality study with BSCE Chairperson Engr. Marvin Ray Sanglay and BSCE Instructor Engr. Orlando Davin Jr.

In addition, Baniqued also secured 2nd Best Presenter for STEM B for another co-authored paper with Engr. Sanglay titled, โ€œEvaluating the Impact of Open Educational Resources (OER) on Student Engagement, Comprehension, and Academic Performance: A Convergent Parallel Mixed Methods Study at Quirino State University.โ€

Asked about the driving force behind these rigorous studies and their institutional impact, Baniqued emphasized the universityโ€™s institutional culture.

โ€œIt aligns directly with our universityโ€™s mantra of โ€˜Acculturizing Innovationโ€™ and our broader commitment to our mission and vision,โ€ Baniqued said. โ€œWe donโ€™t just want our work to sit on paper; our goal is to produce applied research that drives genuine, real-world impact.โ€

The four-day international gathering brought together educators, researchers, and administrators from across the globe to benchmark best practices, foster collaboration, and recognize trailblazers in modern education.

๐๐„๐–๐’ || In a continuous effort to foster transparent governance and open communication, OICโ€“University President Dr. Romiro G. Bautista, alongside Campus Administrator Dr. Ariel A. Lagunilla, spearheaded a comprehensive consultation meeting with the faculty and staff of Quirino State University (QSU) Cabarroguis Campus earlier today.

The dialogue served as a vital platform to address key institutional priorities and employee welfare. Among the central agenda items thoroughly discussed include the creation and processing of plantilla positions for Contract of Service (COS) faculty members, transition and regularization pathways for university drivers to secure regular-contractual status, and strategic milestones and pathways for advancing thriving internationalization initiatives across the university.

Highlighting the core foundation of institutional progress, Dr. Bautista strongly emphasized the significance of solidarity, open collaboration, and collective commitment among all personnel as the university advances toward a shared vision of excellence.

UNIVERSITY NEWS | โ€˜Give him 100%โ€™: Damance backs Lagunilla in QSU-C leadership turnover

Outgoing Campus Administrator Prof. Baltazar Damance urged the QSU-C community to throw their full support behind his successor, Dr. Ariel Lagunilla, during the official turnover ceremony at the Registrar's lobby on Monday, August 3.

Stepping down after serving as the Campus Administrator since 2017, Damance reflected on his 36 years of service to the institution, using his turnover address to express gratitude and call for campus unity under the new leadership.

Following the symbolic transfer of authority, Lagunilla officially accepted the role, acknowledging the trust placed in him by the Board of Regents, the University President, faculty, staff, and students.

Lagunilla came from the College of Business where he served as Program Chair of Entrepreneurship for 5 years, and a proud alumnus of Quirino Polytechnic College (QPC), now known as Quirino State University - Cabarroguis Campus.

For 14 years of service, he also served as the University Sports Director for seven years, and nine years as Student Government Adviser of QSU-C, showing his dedication and leadership in the institution.

โ€œWell, I am a strong believer on the Principle of Continuity and Alignment," Lagunilla said, emphasizing to continue the projects under Damance's administration, and future steps will be 100 percent aligned in the Universityโ€™s Top Management direction under the leadership of the Officer-in-Charge (OIC) President Dr. Romiro Bautista.

He also expressed that every student, faculty and staff will not be left in the journey of the University's success.

Taking the helm of his alma mater, Lagunilla emphasized that his leadership would be grounded in collaboration and deep respect for the educators who once taught him.

โ€œI stand before you, not someone above you, but as a brother who listens... who honors your wisdom, my dear mentors, my former teachers. I will also be a friend who walks alongside you in times of difficulty and triumph,โ€ Lagunilla said.

The new Campus Administrator also reflected on his personal connection to the Campus community.

โ€œThank you, everyone, for reminding me. I stand before you as a proud alumnus of Quirino State University-Cabarroguis Campus, this very institution that gave me my foundation,โ€ he added.

The ceremony, attended by university officials, faculty members, and student leaders, highlighting the campus' continuing commitment to its mission and vision while celebrating both a legacy of service and a welcoming new beginning.
