I hear parents of young children stressing over the fact that their child isn’t interested in learning early academic skills like numbers and letters. I think many parents aren’t sure how to support kids’ communication development and automatically default to what they know how to teach - memorizing letters and numbers.

But these AREN’T important early skills. It’s not age appropriate - and unless it’s a child’s special interest or their own personal way to play (which is common in Autistic toddlers and totally okay to support if this is what they love!) - it shouldn’t be a focus for young kids. But PLAY?!! Heck yeah!

The Department of Science and Technology Philippine Council for Agriculture, Aquatic and Natural Resources (DOST PCAARRD) on Monday educated netizens on the correct English translation of the popular Filipino crop “kamote.”

In a Facebook post, DOST PCAARRD said that “kamote” is “sweetpotato” in English, noting that it does not have a space and that it is not two words.
