𝗜𝗡 𝗣𝗛𝗢𝗧𝗢𝗦: 𝗔 𝗙𝗶𝗲𝗹𝗱 𝗦𝘁𝘂𝗱𝘆 𝗝𝗼𝘂𝗿𝗻𝗲𝘆 𝗙𝗶𝗹𝗹𝗲𝗱 𝗪𝗶𝘁𝗵 𝗗𝗶𝘀𝗰𝗼𝘃𝗲𝗿𝘆 𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗟𝗲𝗮𝗿𝗻𝗶𝗻𝗴

NEUST Biology students embarked on an enriching Ecology field study at NEUST Eco Park, Gabaldon, Nueva Ecija on November 21-22, 2025, successfully completing their hands-on exploration of diverse ecosystems.

Through various research activities, they explored both terrestrial and aquatic ecosystems, documenting mushrooms, measuring the heights of towering trees, identifying different fern species, studying riparian zones along waterways, and tested soil and water systems. The students also crossed rocky streams, set up quadrats for sampling, and collected data along forest trails. In the midst of the wilderness, teamwork helped them carry out their research study with success.

This meaningful experience was made possible by dedicated faculty supervisors—Ma'am Krystel Grace Padilla, Sir Danny Alfonso, Sir Paul Joshua Balosbalos, Sir Ernest Juvert Tolentino, Sir Imanuel Prudentino, and Sir Chia Ren Punzal—who guided students with patience and expertise. They turned outdoor exploration into valuable learning experiences, encouraging questions and curiosity at every step. Their dedication showed students that the best lessons happen outside the classroom, and their guidance will inspire these young biologists for years to come.

The Biology Department proudly celebrates the remarkable achievement of its students for securing 𝟕𝐭𝐡 𝐏𝐥𝐚𝐜𝐞 in the 𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐢𝐩𝐩𝐢𝐧𝐞 𝐌𝐢𝐜𝐫𝐨𝐛𝐢𝐨𝐥𝐨𝐠𝐲 𝐎𝐥𝐲𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐚𝐝 (𝐏𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐌𝐎) 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟔 𝐍𝐚𝐭𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐚𝐥 𝐂𝐡𝐚𝐦𝐩𝐢𝐨𝐧𝐬𝐡𝐢𝐩 𝐑𝐨𝐮𝐧𝐝, held on July 14, 2026.

After emerging as the Regional Champions for North and Central Luzon, Team NEUST earned the honor of representing the region at the national stage, where they competed against eight of the country's top-performing university teams from across the Philippines. The competition brought together the best undergraduate microbiology students in the nation, each having qualified through their respective regional championships.

Representing NEUST with excellence were: John Louis Ferrer, Francine Cruz, and John Mar Gabriel, all of whom are incoming 4th year BS Biology Students.

Throughout the competition, Team NEUST demonstrated exceptional scientific knowledge, critical thinking, and teamwork. Their impressive performance against the nation's strongest contenders is a reflection of their dedication, perseverance, and passion for the field of microbiology. Finishing among the country's top teams is an achievement worthy of recognition, and the entire NEUST community takes great pride in their accomplishment.

This milestone also stands as a testament to the Biology Department's unwavering commitment to advancing microbiology education within the Bachelor of Science in Biology program. Through rigorous academic training, laboratory instruction, research engagement, and the cultivation of scientific excellence, the department continues to prepare students who can confidently compete and excel on the national stage.

To formally commence the ceremony, 𝐃𝐞𝐚𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐨 𝐀𝐛𝐞𝐬𝐚𝐦𝐢𝐬 𝐉𝐫. delivered earnest and inspiring opening remarks, followed by an empowering address from 𝐌𝐫. 𝐑𝐚𝐧𝐝𝐲 𝐌. 𝐈𝐛𝐚ñ𝐞𝐳, 𝐉.𝐃. The guest speaker, 𝐃𝐫. 𝐉𝐚𝐦𝐞𝐬 𝐊𝐞𝐧𝐧𝐚𝐫𝐝 𝐒𝐚𝐧𝐳 𝐉𝐚𝐜𝐨𝐛, then shared insights from his academic and professional journey, recounting how he built his career from humble beginnings to become a medical practitioner.

In the beginning of the ceremony, the three students, 𝐒𝐡𝐢𝐥𝐨𝐡 𝐂𝐥𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐬𝐬𝐞 𝐂. 𝐁𝐮𝐞𝐧𝐚𝐯𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚, 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐋𝐨𝐮𝐢𝐬 𝐕. 𝐅𝐞𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐫, and 𝐀𝐧𝐠𝐞𝐥 𝐉𝐨𝐡𝐧 𝐒. 𝐆𝐚𝐫𝐜𝐢𝐚 delivered an address of gratitude, spanning from the time they first connected with every person to acknowledging the mentors and families who have been contributed to their academic journey. Subsequently, a benediction was conducted—a meaningful moment of spiritual grounding—under the leadership of 𝐏𝐚𝐬𝐭𝐨𝐫 𝐑𝐨𝐦𝐦𝐞𝐥 𝐆. 𝐁𝐚𝐫𝐫𝐨𝐠𝐚.

To conclude the ceremony, Assoc. Prof. 𝐊𝐫𝐲𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐥 𝐆𝐫𝐚𝐜𝐞 𝐕. 𝐏𝐚𝐝𝐢𝐥𝐥𝐚, 𝐌𝐒𝐜., Department Head of the Biology Department, delivered an inspirational message encouraging students to persevere and pursue their aspirations despite challenging circumstances.
