In observance of National Disaster Resilience Month (NDRM) 2026, the City Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (CDRRMO) evaluated the earthquake drill conducted at Cabanatuan City Senior High School yesterday, July 14, to assess the school's disaster preparedness and emergency response.
CDRRMO Operations Chief Lawrence Fancubit commended CCSHS for its "very satisfactory" performance, citing the learners' and faculty members' correct ex*****on of the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" procedure, their composure throughout the drill, and their orderly evacuation to the designated evacuation area.
Mr. Fancubit stressed the importance of preparing for "The Big One," emphasizing that panic during an earthquake can create a domino effect and increase the risk of injuries.
The CDRRMO chief also encouraged the school community to continue conducting regular earthquake drills.
He also recommended strengthening radio communication, providing section placards during evacuations, and equipping faculty members with identifiable safety vests to further improve emergency response.
The activity, spearheaded by the CDRRMO in coordination with the Barangay Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Office (BDRRMO), was conducted in selected schools with high-rise buildings to assess and strengthen earthquake preparedness.
Meanwhile, Barangay Sta. Arcadia Councilor Arlene Santos, Committee Chair on Barangay Disaster Management, reminded students to remain alert and practice proper earthquake response procedures. She also assured the school community that the barangay is ready to respond and provide immediate assistance whenever emergencies arise.
Finally, Principal III Abraham B. Ramos, PhD expressed his gratitude to the CDRRMO, Barangay Sta. Arcadia Captain Joel Escuadro, teachers, the Boy Scouts, The Collumino staff, and the Cabshians for contributing to the successful implementation of the activity.
Principal Ramos, together with School Disaster Risk Reduction and Management (SDRRM) Coordinator Sir Darwin P. Deocares, also committed to adopting the recommendations provided by the evaluators to further strengthen the school's disaster preparedness initiatives.
