This year, we commemorate the 130th anniversary of the Unang Sigaw ng Nueva Ecija, a defining moment in the provinceโs history and the Philippine Revolution. On September 2, 1896, Novo Ecijano revolutionaries led by General Mariano Llanera and Pantaleon Valmonte, alongside fellow Katipuneros, rose against Spanish colonial rule and staged a bold uprising in San Isidro, Nueva Ecija.
The Unang Sigaw stands as a lasting testament to the valor, unity, and patriotism of the Novo Ecijanos who fought for freedom. Nueva Ecijaโs vital role in the Revolution is immortalized by one of the eight rays of the sun on the Philippine flag, symbolizing the first eight provinces that took up arms against Spain.
As we mark this milestone, may we honor the sacrifices of those who came before us and carry forward their enduring spirit of service, resilience, and love for both our province and our country.
