CSUCC Energy and Power Research and Innovation Center (CEPRIC) conducted a coordination meeting with the Department of Education โ€“ Division of Agusan del Norte on March 26, 2026 at the DepEd Division Office in Butuan City. The meeting was undertaken in preparation for the implementation of two research-based extension initiatives namely: Project BantayEE: Safeguarding Electrical Safety in DepEd Local Schools Through Oplan Dagitabโ€™s Bantay Kuryente, under the leadership of Engr. Melgie Rose C. Acero, and Project EEskwela: Enhancing Electrical Infrastructure for DepEd Local Schools through Oplan Dagitabโ€™s Brigada Eskwela, led by Engr. Kemberly R. Tanare.

The two extension initiatives are anchored on the locally developed policy brief generated from the research project Tun-EE, which was conducted in 2025 under the leadership of Engr. Erickson A. Tacda. As presented during the meeting, the findings and policy recommendations from Tun-EE will serve as the foundation for the planning and implementation of both projects, ensuring that the proposed interventions are evidence-based, context-responsive, and aligned with the actual needs of DepEd local schools.

During the meeting, Engr. Tacda presented the final results of the Tun-EE research project and discussed how its outputs may be translated into responsive extension programming. The presentation emphasized the value of research-driven intervention in addressing electrical safety concerns and infrastructure-related needs in public schools. Following this, Engr. Acero presented the rationale, objectives, and implementation framework of Project BantayEE, which is designed to strengthen electrical safety awareness and promote preventive measures in DepEd local schools through Bantay Kuryente. Engr. Tanare likewise presented the rationale, objectives, and implementation plan of Project EEskwela, highlighting its focus on enhancing electrical infrastructure in schools through a technically guided and research-informed approach that complements, yet differs from, the customary Brigada Eskwela activities.

The meeting further served as a venue for institutional dialogue and partnership-building among key stakeholders. Dr. Jeanie Mativo, Schools Division Superintendent, expressed appreciation for the initiatives and underscored the significance of research as a prerequisite to the design and implementation of extension programs. She emphasized that data-driven interventions are essential in ensuring the relevance, effectiveness, and sustainability of projects intended for schools. Mr. John Rey M. Ebasco, Education Program Specialist III, likewise manifested support for the proposed initiatives and recommended the inclusion of the Municipal Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Offices (MDRRMOs) of the local government units in Agusan del Norte to reinforce coordination and broaden stakeholder participation.

Also presented during the meeting was a proposed research initiative on Energy Efficiency and Conservation for DepEd Schools, through CEPRIC signified its intention to assist the division in its compliance with the Government Energy Management Program. This complementary research direction reflects the Centerโ€™s broader commitment to supporting institutional energy management efforts through research, policy guidance, and extension engagement.

Present also during the meeting from the CSUCC were Engr. Darynell Maguikay, Project BantayEE Proponent; and Engr. Ian C. Guday, College Extension Coordinator.

The meeting concluded with an agreement to conduct a follow-up coordination meeting in April 2026 with district supervisors, division engineers, legal personnel, local government units, and MDRRMOs. The succeeding engagement is expected to further strengthen the collaborative framework among the CSU, DepEd Agusan del Norte, the IIEE Butuanโ€“Agusan del Norte Chapter, and the local government units throughout the Province of Agusan del Norte, with the end in view of ensuring the effective, coordinated, and sustainable implementation of the extension initiatives.

Through these efforts, CSUCC-CEPRIC reaffirms its institutional commitment to advancing research-informed extension services, fostering strategic partnerships, and delivering responsive programs that contribute to electrical safety, infrastructure improvement, energy efficiency, and sustainable development in support of the education sector.

Recent DOE monitoring of government offices specifically checks compliance with maintaining air-conditioning temperature settings at ๐—ป๐—ผ ๐—น๐—ผ๐˜„๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฎ๐—ป ๐Ÿฎ๐Ÿฐยฐ๐—–, limiting unnecessary cooling, and using energy-efficient equipment.

Proper aircon use also includes selecting a unit appropriate for the space, performing regular maintenance, and choosing energy-efficient appliances, as guided by the ๐—ฃ๐—ต๐—ถ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ฝ๐—ฝ๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ฒ ๐—˜๐—ป๐—ฒ๐—ฟ๐—ด๐˜† ๐—Ÿ๐—ฎ๐—ฏ๐—ฒ๐—น๐—ถ๐—ป๐—ด ๐—ฃ๐—ฟ๐—ผ๐—ด๐—ฟ๐—ฎ๐—บ (๐—ฃ๐—˜๐—Ÿ๐—ฃ), which requires energy labels on covered products to help consumers compare efficiency. The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Agusan del Norte invited the proponents of Project Tun-EE to present the completed collaborative research entitled โ€œProject Tun-EE: Electrical System Infrastructure Optimization in Elementary Schools for Enhanced Energy Efficiency, Safety, and Learning Environmentโ€ during the 1st Division Management Committee Meeting on January 23, 2026, held at the E&G Hotel Convention Center, Cabadbaran City.

The presentation featured the consolidated findings of the research project, which assessed the current status of electrical system infrastructure in public elementary schools across the division. The study identified prevailing conditions affecting electrical safety, energy efficiency, and the quality of learning environments, providing a comprehensive evidence base for institutional planning and intervention.

Central to the presentation was the translation of research findings into policy-oriented recommendations aimed at guiding decision-making processes related to school infrastructure improvement, electrical system upgrades, and sustainable energy use. These recommendations are intended to support DepEd Agusan del Norte in strengthening safety standards and promoting energy-efficient practices in elementary school facilities.

The research presentation was delivered by Engr. Erickson A. Tacda, CEPRIC Center Chief and Project Leader, together with Engr. Melgie Rose C. Acero, Project Member. Their presentation emphasized the role of data-driven research in informing education-sector policies and enhancing infrastructure planning at the division level.

The engagement marked an important milestone in the collaboration between the research proponents and DepEd Agusan del Norte, highlighting the value of academic and technical research in addressing real-world challenges in basic education.

Project Tun-EE successfully conducted its Year-End Assessment and Strategic Planning for 2026 on December 15โ€“16, 2025, at Cabinscape Ridge Resort, Mat-i, Misamis Oriental. The two-day activity brought together project leaders, proponents, members, and staff to review the projectโ€™s 2025 performance and collaboratively set its strategic direction for the coming year.

The activity opened with the registration of participants, followed by the opening prayer and the national hymn. Engr. Erickson A. Tacda, Project Tun-EE Leader and Center Chief of the Energy and Power Research and Innovation Center (CEPRIC), delivered the welcome remarks, emphasizing the importance of reflective evaluation and unified planning in sustaining the projectโ€™s momentum. This was followed by a message of support from Engr. Blondie T. Sanchez, Project Tun-EE Proponent and CEIT Dean, who highlighted the projectโ€™s role in advancing data-driven solutions for electrical safety and energy efficiency in public schools.

A major portion of the activity focused on the presentation and discussion of the Project Tun-EE Accomplishment Report, delivered by Engr. Mirafe Nalaza, Project Tun-EE Engineer. The report outlined key accomplishments, district-level assessment results, utilization of the Energy Efficiency and Safety Matrices, and important implementation milestones. An open feedbacking session followed, allowing project proponents, members, and staff to share insights, challenges encountered, and significant findings from field implementation.

The workshop sessions then shifted toward forward planning, with presentations of proposed 2026 research and extension initiatives. Research projects such as Project DigiStation and Project PoleMer, along with extension projects Project BantayEE, Project EEskwela, and Project EElaw, were presented and discussed. An orientation on project proponent assignments was facilitated by Engr. Mirafe Nalaza, Engr. Deoren M. Damo, and Ms. Rizza Shannyn M. Paredes, providing clarity on roles, responsibilities, and implementation expectations for the coming year.

Discussions also centered on starting up new projects, aligning proposed initiatives with institutional priorities, partner needs, and available resources. Participants engaged in question-and-answer exchanges and worked collectively to consolidate key action points arising from the assessment and workshop discussions. These inputs were synthesized into the Project Tun-EE Strategic Plan and Workplan for 2026, defining priority activities, timelines, and responsibilities.

The activity concluded with a closing message from Engr. Erickson A. Tacda, who underscored the value of teamwork, accountability, and continuity in ensuring the sustained impact of Project Tun-EE. A photo opportunity and formal wrap-up marked the end of the engagement.

The Year-End Assessment and Strategic Planning Activity reaffirmed Project Tun-EEโ€™s commitment to reflective practice and forward-looking implementation. The outcomes of the activity will serve as the foundation for the projectโ€™s 2026 roadmap, ensuring that future initiatives remain evidence-based, responsive, and aligned with the goal of improving electrical safety, energy efficiency, and learning environments in public schools.

The Department of Education (DepEd) Schools Division of Agusan del Norte and the proponents of Project Tun-EE formally strengthened their collaboration through the Signing of the Policy Recommendation and Certificate of Utilization on December 11, 2025, held at the DepEd Schools Division Office of Agusan del Norte.

The signing marked a significant milestone in the implementation of Project Tun-EE, as it formally recognizes DepEd Agusan del Norteโ€™s adoption and intended utilization of the research findings, assessment tools, and policy recommendations generated from the project. These outputs are expected to guide decision-making processes related to electrical safety, energy efficiency, and infrastructure planning in public elementary schools across the division.

Leading the signing on behalf of DepEd Agusan del Norte was Dr. Jeanie L. Mativo, CESO V, Schools Division Superintendent. She was joined by Mr. John Rey M. Ebasco, Education Program Specialist II, and Engr. Shelemiah C. Gata, Division Engineer, who played key roles in aligning the research outputs with DepEdโ€™s operational and technical frameworks.

Representing the Project Tun-EE proponents were Engr. Erickson A. Tacda, MSEE, Center Chief of the CSUCC Energy and Power Research and Innovation Center (CEPRIC), together with Engr. Melgie Rose C. Acero, MSc., Project Member. Also present were Engr. Mirafe Nalaza, Engr. Deoren M. Damo, and Ms. Rizza Shannyn M. Paredes, Project Staff, who contributed to the development, validation, and documentation of the projectโ€™s assessment tools and findings.

The signed documents affirm DepEd Agusan del Norteโ€™s commitment to utilize the Energy Efficiency Matrix, Safety Matrix, and accompanying technical recommendations produced under Project Tun-EE. These tools provide a structured, data-driven basis for assessing electrical systems, identifying risks, and prioritizing interventions in school facilities.

Through this formal agreement, both institutions underscore their shared goal of translating research into actionable policy and practice. Project Tun-EE visited Kitcharao District, Agusan del Norte on November 18, 2025, as part of its continuing pilot implementation aimed at evaluating the electrical safety and energy performance of public elementary schools across the province. The team conducted onsite reviews in P. C. Reyes Elementary School, Bliss Elementary School, and Jose Bermudez Elementary School, gathering essential data to support future improvement plans.

The activity began with a coordination briefing where the team aligned plans with district representatives and reviewed the procedures for using the Energy Efficiency Matrix and the Safety Matrix. These tools provided a structured approach for inspecting electrical installations and identifying areas that may require enhancement.

Leading the Kitcharao District deployment was Project Tun-EE Proponent Engr. Blondie Sanchez, together with Project Members Engr. Ian Guday, Engr. Kemberly Taรฑare, and Engr. Marloun Auguis. They were supported by Project Tun-EE Staff Engr. Deoren Damo and College Technical Staff Mr. Glenn Michael Beriso, who coordinated onsite inspections and helped validate the collected data. Accompanying them were 4th-year Electrical Engineering students Lesly Nicole Lacambra, Reymark Polongasa, and Frost Mark Galela, who assisted with documentation, matrix scoring, and observation tasks.

Throughout the visits, the team conducted walkthrough evaluations of classrooms and key school areas. The review covered essential electrical components such as lighting systems, wiring conditions, grounding installations, panel board status, circuit protection devices, outlet and switch integrity, and the readiness of appliances and classroom equipment. All observations were systematically recorded using the matrix tools to ensure accuracy and consistency.

School personnel also shared their experiences regarding the electrical challenges they encounter in daily operations. These insights helped contextualize the findings and provided a clearer understanding of each schoolโ€™s immediate needs.

All information gathered from the Kitcharao District pilot implementation will be consolidated into Project Tun-EEโ€™s technical report. These results will support the creation of data-informed recommendations, offering the district a strong basis for planning necessary electrical upgrades and improving safety and energy efficiency in its schools.
