The Northern Mindanao Colleges, Inc. (NORMI), through the Research, Planning, and Extension Office, successfully conducted a Seminar on Peer Reviewing and Research Advising on September 26, 2025, at NORMITEL.

This academic undertaking was designed to reinforce the institution’s commitment to cultivating a strong research culture by enhancing the competencies of its faculty and staff in two vital aspects of the scholarly process: peer reviewing and research advising. Both are indispensable in upholding academic research's rigor, integrity, and quality.

The program formally commenced with the traditional invocations and institutional hymns, followed by an opening message that underscored the value of capacity-building in sustaining research excellence. The rationale of the activity highlighted the pressing need for higher education institutions to equip their personnel with the skills necessary to evaluate research outputs and effectively guide student researchers critically.

The highlight of the seminar was the comprehensive lecture delivered by Dr. Miraluna L. Herrera (Resource Person), who shared extensive knowledge and practical approaches in performing peer review and research supervision. Her discourse emphasized methodological soundness, ethical considerations, and strategies for mentoring researchers in navigating the challenges of scholarly writing and publication.

An open forum provided a platform for participants to actively engage with the speaker, raise questions, and share reflections on their experiences as research advisers and evaluators. This interactive exchange enriched the collective understanding of research standards and best practices within the academic community.

The seminar concluded with closing remarks that reiterated NORMI's vision of fostering an environment where faculty and staff continuously develop their professional and research capacities in the service of academic excellence.
The institution conveys its heartfelt appreciation to the organizers, speakers, facilitators, and participants whose dedication and active participation contributed to the success of this event.

Mr. Rene L. Constancia Jr., the Department Research Coordinator at Northern Mindanao Colleges Incorporated, has actively contributed to the academic community through his publication in the International Journal of Research Publication.
In a recent development, Mr. Constancia linked his scholarly work to his ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID), an initiative supported by the Research Office of Northern Mindanao Colleges Inc. This action is part of the institution's broader efforts to enhance the visibility and accessibility of research output from its faculty and staff.

By linking his publication to his ORCID profile, Mr. Constancia has not only made his work more discoverable but has also contributed to the growing network of researchers globally. ORCID serves as a unique digital identifier that distinguishes researchers, ensuring proper attribution and helping to manage their academic portfolio. This move aligns with the institution’s commitment to advancing research and fostering academic collaboration both locally and internationally.

Through this initiative, Northern Mindanao Colleges Incorporated's Research Office further strengthens its role in supporting faculty in their academic endeavors, promoting scholarly exchange, and ensuring that their work reaches a wider, global audience.

Northern Mindanao Colleges Incorporated (NORMI) adopted the ORCID (Open Researcher and Contributor ID) system to improve the visibility of its academic community through the efforts of our Institutional Research Coordinator Maria Remedios Consorcia Pagaran Beceril. The initiative was conceived during a conference at a leading university, where researchers from various institutions gathered to discuss challenges such as confusion and difficulty linking their works across platforms. ORCID, an internationally recognized unique identifier for researchers, promised to provide a streamlined, accurate, and permanent link between researchers and their contributions to science, education, and technology.

The registry encouraged researchers from multiple institutions to register for their own ORCID iDs, aiming to bring uniformity to academic achievements recognition and foster collaboration between institutions. As the registry grew, its influence increased, with international journals and funding bodies recognizing the consistency and professionalism of the region's research community. ORCID also served as a catalyst for new partnerships, allowing researchers from different institutions to share data, collaborate on projects, and apply for joint funding opportunities.

The NORMI ORCID registry became a symbol of academic progress, setting the stage for future generations of scholars to follow in their footsteps.
