𝑩𝑺 𝑰𝒏𝒇𝒐𝒓𝒎𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝑻𝒆𝒄𝒉𝒏𝒐𝒍𝒐𝒈𝒚 𝑬𝒂𝒓𝒏𝒔 𝑷𝑰𝑪𝑨𝑩 𝑨𝒄𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏

Caraga State University (CSU), through the College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS), achieved a historic milestone on September 8, 2026, receiving official notification that all three of its undergraduate computing programs have been accredited by the Computing Accreditation Commission (CAC) of the Philippine Information and Computing Accreditation Board (PICAB).

With this accreditation, CSU is now:
☑️The first Higher Education Institution (HEI) in Caraga Region
☑️The fourth HEI in Mindanao
☑️One of only 18 HEIs nationwide
to earn PICAB recognition.

The accreditation is part of the Global Recognition and Quality Excellence Roadmap outlined in the State of the University Address delivered by CSU President Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil in 2025.

CCIS's journey toward PICAB and international accreditation began in December 2024, following an initial on-site orientation. To ensure institutional readiness for the accreditation evaluation, the college undertook comprehensive preparation, including targeted writeshops, a benchmarking activity with a PICAB-accredited HEI, and specialized training programs.

PICAB was formed by the Philippine Computer Society (PCS) — the country's longest-standing professional association of ICT professionals — in cooperation with the Computing Society of the Philippines (CSP), the Philippine Society of IT Educators (PSITE) Foundation, and the Philippine Software Industry Association (PSIA).

PICAB accreditation recognizes CCIS's commitment to academic excellence, continuous quality improvement, and the preparation of graduates for the evolving demands of the computing and information technology professions.

𝑾𝒉𝒂𝒕 𝒅𝒐𝒆𝒔 𝒕𝒉𝒊𝒔 𝒂𝒄𝒄𝒓𝒆𝒅𝒊𝒕𝒂𝒕𝒊𝒐𝒏 𝒎𝒆𝒂𝒏?
📌A PICAB-accredited diploma signals that the BSIT programs meet a recognized national quality standard, strengthening graduates' credentials for employment and further study, both locally and abroad.
📌The program's inclusion means IT graduates now carry accreditation alongside their CS and IS counterparts — validating the program's curriculum, faculty qualifications, facilities, and outcomes against the same rigorous PICAB benchmarks.
📌The distinction as the first HEI in Caraga and fourth in Mindanao to achieve this status elevates the university, the college, and the program's standing in the regional and national higher education landscape and supports its broader Global Recognition and Quality Excellence Roadmap.
📌Accreditation offers employers and partner institutions added assurance of program quality when hiring graduates, forming linkages, or considering credit transfer and articulation agreements.
📌As the first accredited HEI in Caraga, CSU sets a benchmark for computing education quality in the region, potentially encouraging other institutions to pursue similar recognition.

This achievement stands as a testament to the College of Computing and Information Sciences' unwavering commitment to quality education and to its mission of preparing globally competitive computing professionals.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Classes at both campuses will shift to an asynchronous learning modality today, September 4, 2026, following the public health advisory on poor air quality in the region due to haze from ongoing fires in Kalimantan, Indonesia.

OP Memorandum No. 295, s. 2026 is released through approved university communication channels, highlighting precautionary measures to ensure the health and well-being of all community members.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Face-to-face classes will RESUME tomorrow, August 19, 2026, for both campuses of the university. OP Memorandum Order No. 269, s. 2026 is released today following the announcements of the City Governments of Butuan and Cabadbaran and after careful consideration of the appropriate learning arrangements available at the university.

The Caraga State University Cabadbaran Campus likewise has the discretion to determine the appropriate learning modality for its Golden Paddlers at the Laboratory High School, in accordance with the advisories issued by the aforementioned government units. Please read the full details of the Memorandum cascaded through the university’s official communication channels.

As we go back to the university, we remind our Golden Paddlers to stay cool and hydrated to avoid heat-related risks. Further, the University Clinic is open for any concerns or reports of students experiencing heat-related illnesses.

This decision is made to ensure that all students can participate in the activity under safe and comfortable conditions. Virtual attendance is still MANDATORY, and proper online etiquette is strictly encouraged.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Face-to-Face classes for the undergraduate Golden Paddlers at both campuses remain SUSPENDED due to the persistently high heat index in the region. OP Memorandum No. 262, s. 2026 is released today for dissemination, following the announcements of the City Governments of Butuan and Cabadbaran.

However, Golden Paddlers from the School of Medicine (SOM) and the Graduate School (GS) may conduct in-person classes when appropriate, following careful assessment of protective measures to ensure student safety and comfort.

Personnel, both teaching and non-teaching, will still physically report to their respective campuses. Full details are reflected in the Memorandum.

𝗔𝗡𝗡𝗢𝗨𝗡𝗖𝗘𝗠𝗘𝗡𝗧: Face-to-Face classes for the Main Campus are hereby SUSPENDED starting today, August 13, 2026, until further notice, following OP Memorandum No. 258, s. 2026. This means that all classes shall shift to FLEXIBLE TEACHING AND LEARNING MODALITIES, with faculty members ensuring its effective implementation.

The Memorandum adheres to the official announcement of the City Government of Butuan, declaring the same suspension due to the persistently high heat index experienced throughout the region and parts of the Philippines.

With the heat index at a dangerous level (44°C), the university prioritizes the health and safety of its Golden Paddlers and community. Please stay cool and hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses. Keep safe, everyone!

This information is already cascaded internally through OP Memorandum Order No. 241, s. 2026.
During this time, the university will host the overall flow of the program, including town hall meetings, focus group discussions, policy consultations, and oversight feedback sessions. University services, on the other hand, will remain operational and available. Faculty members and heads of offices are also directed to make appropriate arrangements to limit work disruption and ensure the successful conduct of this activity.
