The CSU delegation will join the Workshop on Diversity of Flowering Plants: A Botanical Journey into Art on April 23-27, 2025, facilitated by the SU Faculty of Science. Vice President for Student Affairs and Auxiliary Services Rissa L. Mercado, PhD, Julie S. Berame, PhD, Archie Along, MSc, and Jesiel Cris Paylangco, MSc. lead the said delegation.

CSU and NEMSU Lianga Collaborate on Karyotyping Training-Workshop

Caraga State University (CSU) and North Eastern Mindanao State University (NEMSU) Lianga Campus held a collaborative three-day Training-Workshop on Karyotyping of Biological Specimens from April 7 to 9, 2025, at the Center on Research and Aquamarine Sustainability (CoRALS).

The activity, spearheaded by CSU’s Department of Biology and NEMSU’s College of Fisheries and Aquatic Sciences, aimed to build faculty researchers’ capacity in cytogenetics. Day one featured lectures on chromosomal structures and karyotyping processes by Mr. Jashin J. Rosal and Ms. Mayvel D. Suan, followed by hands-on sessions in sample preparation and chromosome staining led by the lecturers and Mr. Kevin Rey A. Guiritan. Participants showed great enthusiasm and active participation throughout the training.

A warm welcome home and congratulations to our exceptional MS Biology students—Angela Alain Ang, Florianne Labolabo, and Resamay Lara—on successfully completing their six-month Sandwich Scholarship Program (SSP) in Taiwan!

Through the MECO-TECO-supported SSP, these scholars conducted groundbreaking research at Kaohsiung Medical University, focusing on Wolbachia endosymbionts in mosquitoes. Under the mentorship of Dr. Yong-Chao Su and in collaboration with CSU faculty Brent Joy Hernando and alumnus David Jone Herrera, their study contributed to understanding microbial interactions in disease-carrying vectors.

This invaluable experience, made possible by Prof. Maria Elma Won’s initiative, not only expanded their expertise in molecular and ecological research but also strengthened CSU’s global academic partnerships. Your dedication and achievements make us proud—cheers to more scientific milestones ahead!

MS Biology students from the university’s Department of Biology completed a six-month Sandwich Scholarship Program (SSP), a research opportunity open to Master’s and PhD students interested in doing research in Taiwan.

The partnership between CSU and KMU, initiated by Professor Maria Elma Won, the students’ thesis adviser, offers valuable international exposure, equipping students with advanced molecular and ecological research techniques. It also contributes to the university’s efforts to enhance global academic partnerships and research capabilities.

The Caraga State University (CSU) officially announces the opening of the Bachelor of Science in Marine Biology (BSMB), which aims to produce highly skilled marine biologists equipped to address the challenges of marine biodiversity conservation, coastal sustainability, and climate resilience.

Strengthening the university’s commitment to environmental conservation, marine science research, and sustainable development, the BSMB will be offered this upcoming AY 2025-2026 under the College of Mathematics and Natural Sciences (CMNS) - Department of Biology.
