Caraga State University (CSU), through the Center for Renewable Energy, Automation, and Fabrication Technologies (CRAFT), formally signed a Memorandum of Agreement (MOA) with the Barangay Local Government Unit (BLGU) of La Januza, General Luna, Surigao del Norte for the research project titled โ€œRS-Development and Implementation of Smart Street Light System by Integrating Remote Lighting Control System (SSLSIRLICS) in Partnership with Caraga LGUs and Barangays.โ€

Representing CSU during the ceremony was Engr. Edgardo Ricardo B. Sajonia Jr., Project Leader, together with the SSLSIRLICS project teamโ€”Engr. Anamarie P. Sajonia (Project Staff), Engr. Hanzel B. Caringal (Project Development Officer I), and Mr. Lyndon C. Merciales (Project Assistant I).

The team was warmly welcomed by Hon. Marvin C. Dolera, Punong Barangay of La Januza, along with the barangay council. In his message, Hon. Dolera expressed deep appreciation to CSU for bringing the project to their community:

โ€œDako among pasalamat nga ang CSU nakaabot gyud diri sa among barangay. โ€

Following the MOA signing, the CSU team immediately commenced the installation of 15 SSLSIRLICS units as part of the projectโ€™s initial implementation. Another 15 units are scheduled for delivery and installation soon, completing the 30-unit allocation for Barangay La Januza.

This partnership marks a significant step toward providing sustainable and renewable lighting solutions to off-grid communities, reinforcing CSUโ€™s commitment to innovation-driven and community-centered research and development across the Caraga region.

Driven by the need for sustainable lighting in communities, the SSLSIRLICS Project continues to move forward through local partnerships. On September 17, 2025, CSU-CRAFT met with officials of Barangay Alegria, San Francisco, Agusan del Sur to present the project and explore deployment opportunities.

Barangay officials expressed strong support, identifying the perimeter fence of the covered court as a priority installation site, noting its importance as both a community hub and a playing venue for the upcoming Palarong Pambansa 2026. An ocular inspection validated the areaโ€™s suitability and gave the CSU-CRAFT team a clearer picture of the barangayโ€™s lighting needs.

The activity was carried out by the CSU-CRAFT team composed of Engr. Edgardo Ricardo B. Sajonia Jr. (Project Leader), Engr. Re-ann Cristine C. Puerin (Project Staff), and Engr. Hanzel B. Caringal (Project Development Officer I). The partnership not only reinforced CSU-CRAFTโ€™s commitment to renewable energy solutions but also laid the foundation for future project expansions.
