The College of Computing and Information Sciences (CCIS) conducted its General Orientation and Faculty Onboarding on August 19, 2026, at the University Gymnasium, Caraga State University. The event was attended by faculty members and students from all departments of the college.
The event was officially opened by the CCIS Associate Dean, Prof. Jesterlyn Q. Timosan, who set the tone and explained the rationale behind the event. Following this, the College Dean, Prof. Jaymer M. Jayoma, ITD, delivered his message, challenging all students to give their best effort in everything they do.
To properly orient the students to the culture and identity of the University, the CCIS QuAMs Core Group Member and Overall Coordinator, Ms. Mary Rose O. Raz, presented the Vision, Mission, Core Values, Graduate Attributes, Core Mandate, and Quality Policy of CSU, ensuring that all students internalized these principles.
The newly hired faculty members of the college were then introduced and formally inducted into service, led by Dr. Jayoma. This was followed by the introduction of the entire faculty roster, led by the respective Department Heads: Dr. Roland P. Abao for the Department of Computer Science, Mr. Jayrhom R. Almonteros for the Department of Information Systems, and Ms. Jenelyn R. Asis for the Department of Information Technology.
The morning session concluded with an orientation on the Safe Spaces Code and PADI Orientation, led by the Head of the Gender and Development Program and Training Development Unit, Ms. Marjorie L. Escartin. She discussed the university's safe spaces and PADI policies, emphasizing that students must exercise their right to a safe and respectful environment.
The afternoon session featured parallel, program-specific orientations, where faculty members discussed the Program Educational Objectives, Program Outcomes, the curriculum at large, advising, grading, and retention policies, along with a walkthrough of the various facilities housed in Hiraya Hall.
The annual orientation program of CCIS aims to welcome and prepare incoming and continuing students for the academic year ahead โ introducing them to the college's faculty, policies, and support systems while reinforcing the University's core identity, values, and commitment to a safe, inclusive, and quality-driven learning environment. Through this, CCIS continues to affirm its commitment to student success and excellence, true to its tagline: "CCIS, your best option to success."

๐๐ก๐ก๐ข๐จ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ง: Face-to-face classes will RESUME tomorrow, August 19, 2026, for both campuses of the university. OP Memorandum Order No. 269, s. 2026 is released today following the announcements of the City Governments of Butuan and Cabadbaran and after careful consideration of the appropriate learning arrangements available at the university.
The Caraga State University Cabadbaran Campus likewise has the discretion to determine the appropriate learning modality for its Golden Paddlers at the Laboratory High School, in accordance with the advisories issued by the aforementioned government units. Please read the full details of the Memorandum cascaded through the universityโs official communication channels.
As we go back to the university, we remind our Golden Paddlers to stay cool and hydrated to avoid heat-related risks. Further, the University Clinic is open for any concerns or reports of students experiencing heat-related illnesses.

๐๐ข๐๐๐๐๐ฌ ๐๐ก๐ก๐ข๐จ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ง: Work and classes at both campuses of the university will be SUSPENDED on Friday, August 21, 2026, for the commemoration of the death anniversary of Former Senator Benigno โNinoyโ Simeรณn Aquino, Jr., per OP Memorandum No. 266, s. 2026 and Proclamation No. 1006. With this, university operations will run from 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM for this week, excluding classes and teaching personnel with fixed schedules.
The Ninoy Aquino Day reminds us Filipinos of the importance of our truth, patriotism, and democracy. Let this courageous belief and sacrifice remind us once again of our enduring impetus to strive for a better Philippines.

๐๐๐ฉ๐๐ฆ๐ข๐ฅ๐ฌ: Due to the forecasted high heat index in Butuan City, the Student General Orientation will now be conducted VIRTUALLY on August 21, 2026, via Zoom and FB Live through the Office of the Vice President for Student Affairs and Auxiliary Servicesโ page.
This decision is made to ensure that all students can participate in the activity under safe and comfortable conditions. Virtual attendance is still MANDATORY, and proper online etiquette is strictly encouraged.

However, Golden Paddlers from the School of Medicine (SOM) and the Graduate School (GS) may conduct in-person classes when appropriate, following careful assessment of protective measures to ensure student safety and comfort.
Personnel, both teaching and non-teaching, will still physically report to their respective campuses. Full details are reflected in the Memorandum.

This means that all classes shall shift to FLEXIBLE TEACHING AND LEARNING MODALITIES, with faculty members ensuring its effective implementation.
The Memorandum adheres to the official announcement of the City Government of Butuan, declaring the same suspension due to the persistently high heat index experienced throughout the region and parts of the Philippines.
With the heat index at a dangerous level (44ยฐC), the university prioritizes the health and safety of its Golden Paddlers and community. Please stay cool and hydrated to avoid heat-related illnesses. Keep safe, everyone!

๐๐ก๐ก๐ข๐จ๐ก๐๐๐ ๐๐ก๐ง: The Dress Code for Golden Paddlers is temporarily suspended due to the extreme heat conditions experienced in the region and in several parts of the country. As stated in OP Memorandum No. 252, s. 2026, students are now allowed to dress in appropriate, decent, and weather-suitable attire to school, alongside their IDs.
Golden Paddlers are further instructed to bring water bottles, umbrellas, and handheld fans to keep them cool and hydrated as classes are now in full swing. Keep safe, everyone!
