Caraga State University and Silla University (Busan, Korea) had a virtual signing ceremony of the Memorandum of Understanding last May 21, 2024, at 10:00 AM PST via Zoom, initiated by the Graduate School and College of Education.
The virtual event began with an opening message from College of Education Dean Dr. Leo L. Codilla, Jr., emphasizing the attainment of the fourth quality objective in establishing a linkage with an international teacher education institution, faculty/student scholarship, or other collaborative engagement.
Dr. Eunwha Lee, Silla University Graduate School of Education Dean, shared in her message that teacher education should be changed to competence-based education and should not be limited to theoretical knowledge about global citizenship education. She also shared that the goal of global citizenship education is to practice what students know; thus, the reason why CSU and Silla University are agreeing to look forward to more exchanges to enhance the quality of education between the institutions.
The University President, Dr. Rolyn C. Daguil, was optimistic about the partnership as it will explore new avenues to develop curricula that are responsive to the needs of the students and society by focusing on competencies required in real-world successes.
Starting with the agreement, it is hoped that CSU and Silla University will serve as an opportunity for exchanges between universities to become active in more areas, such as the exchange of international students, the message of Dr. Hero Nam-sik, President of Silla University, as shared by Bomjin Lee, Director of Leaders in Industry-University Cooperation (LINC).
Dr. Rowena P. Varela, CSU Dean of Graduate School, capped the virtual event by stating the importance of this partnership in sharing how Silla University implements global citizenship education in their pre-teacher education. In embarking on internationalization and globalization, CSU will work with Silla University to integrate global citizenship education into the curriculum.
