Butuan, Philippines - June 10, 2024 - Saint Joseph Institute of Technology from the College of Engineering and Architecture has made a significant mark in the Regional Grassroots Innovation and Circular Economy Expo (GICE) 2024 Competition, held from June 6 to 9, 2024 at Robinsons Place Butuan. The team's innovative project, "Cacaopod Splitter-Enhancing Cacao Bean Processor," has emerged as the winner among the competing teams in the category of Agriculture (Metals and Fabricated Innovations for Grassroots Communities).
With their creative method for processing cacao beans, the Saint Joseph Institute of Technology team, made up of Renz Clifford O. Navigar, Khyle Vincent T. Paglinawan, and Jonathan A. Lascuña Jr., stood out from the competition. Their "Cacao pod Splitter with Bean Separator: Enhancing Cacao Bean Processor" impressed the judges with its promising approach to advancing the cacao processing industry.
The GICE 2024 Competition was organized by the DOST Caraga Regional Science, Technology, and Innovation Council in partnership with Robinsons Place Butuan and other stakeholders. The event aimed to promote grassroots innovation and circular economy practices in the region, as well as to provide a platform.
The prevailing team received a plaque of recognition, a certificate, and a trophy. To highlight the team's innovation and potential influence on the community, it will also be featured in upcoming events and exhibitions. The team's accomplishments demonstrate the institution's dedication to encouraging student creativity and entrepreneurship. This victory is a major step forward for the College of Engineering and Architecture, which has been leading the charge in the area to support STEM teaching and research.
With their winning innovation, the team from Saint Joseph Institute of Technology has taken a significant step towards positively impacting the local economy. It has set an example for other students and institutions to follow.
