A camel is a large desert animal with a long neck and one or two humps on its back. It also refers to a pale yellowish-brown color, soft wool fabric made from its coat, a one-legged skating spin, or a floating device used in shipping. There are two main types: the single-humped dromedary found in hot places, and the double-humped Bactrian found in cold dry areas; its humps store fat to help it survive long periods without food or water.

A giraffe is a tall, long‑necked, spotted mammal native to African savannas and is recognized as the 𝘁𝗮𝗹𝗹𝗲𝘀𝘁 𝗹𝗶𝘃𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗹𝗮𝗻𝗱 𝗮𝗻𝗶𝗺𝗮𝗹. It belongs to the family 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗶𝗱𝗮𝗲, with its closest living relative being the okapi, and adult males can grow up to 5.5 meters (18 feet) tall. As plant‑eaters, they use their long necks and tongues to reach high tree leaves that other herbivores cannot access.

The word "giraffe" comes from the Arabic term 𝘇𝗶𝗿ā𝗳𝗮𝗵, and it was once called "𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗱" for looking like a mix of camel and leopard; its evolution spans about 20 million years from deer‑like ancestors, the modern form appeared 7 to 8 million years ago, it was brought to ancient Rome in 46 BC and to Ming Dynasty China in the 1400s, was scientifically named 𝗚𝗶𝗿𝗮𝗳𝗳𝗮 𝗰𝗮𝗺𝗲𝗹𝗼𝗽𝗮𝗿𝗱𝗮𝗹𝗶𝘀 in 1758, and is now classified as vulnerable with up to four distinct species recognized.
