๐๐๐๐ | ๐๐ผ๐๐ 2| The Polytechnic College of Botolan (PCB) successfully conducted the second day of its Student Orientation Program, providing incoming students with essential information about the institutionโs academic policies, student services, and campus organizations. The activity aimed to help freshmen become familiar with the collegeโs programs, offices, and opportunities that will support their academic journey.
The program officially commenced at 8:00 a.m. and was led by the Master of Ceremonies, Ma'am Michelle Angela Alejandro, an Institute of Computing Studies (ICS) Instructor. She welcomed the participants and guided the flow of the program, setting a warm and engaging atmosphere for the incoming freshmen. An inspirational message was also given by Dr. Mary Grace S. Manangan, College President, who warmly welcomed the incoming freshmen to the Polytechnic College of Botolan. In her address, she encouraged the students to embrace the opportunities and challenges of college life with determination, resilience, and integrity. She emphasized the importance of pursuing academic excellence, developing strong character, and actively participating in campus activities as they begin a new chapter in their educational journey.
The morning session began with Maโam Arianne Joy Limbag of the Office of Student Affairs and Services (OSAS), who presented an overview of the office, highlighting its duties and responsibilities in promoting student welfare and development. She also discussed the prescribed student uniform of the college, reminding studentsโparticularly female studentsโthat the official uniform consists of pants to ensure compliance with campus regulations and avoid conflicts with the security personnel.
Following this, Maโam Maria Blesilda D. Asis, Registrar II, discussed the Academic Directives found in the Student Handbook. Her presentation emphasized the institutionโs academic policies, student responsibilities, grading system, and other important guidelines that students are expected to observe throughout their stay at PCB.
Meanwhile, Sir Rowell Encarnacion introduced the official organization shirt and explained the designated schedule for wearing it. As the Learning Management System (LMS) Coordinator, he also oriented the students on the collegeโs digital platforms, including the iClass Learning Management System, Student Portal, and Google Workspace (GSuite) accounts, which serve as essential tools for communication and academic learning.
To promote studentsโ health and well-being, Nurse Gina Acuรฑa discussed the medical and dental health services offered by the college. These include first aid, health assessment, medical consultation, emergency care, medication administration, and dental services available to all enrolled students.
Continuing the orientation, Maโam Arianne Joy Limbag presented the Unified Financial Assistance System for Tertiary Education (UniFAST), informing students about the available financial assistance programs and scholarship opportunities provided by the government.
The library services orientation was facilitated by Maโam Kiezel Badua, PCB Librarian, who introduced the various resources and services available to students. These include the libraryโs social media platforms, the Online Public Access Catalog (OPAC), computer services, referral services, the Information Literacy Program, the Science and Technology Academic and Research-Based Openly Operated Kiosks (STARBOOKS), and the PERLEGO E-Book platform, all of which aim to support research and independent learning.
During the afternoon session, Maโam Dasha Gatchalian, Guidance Counselor, presented the programs, services, and activities of the Guidance Office, emphasizing the importance of studentsโ personal, academic, and emotional development.
Maโam Aira Banal then introduced the official publication of the Polytechnic College of Botolan, encouraging students to participate in campus journalism and become active contributors to the dissemination of information within the institution.
Student development opportunities were further highlighted by Sir Alvin Ferrer, CASDP Coordinator and CASC Adviser, who discussed the various leadership programs, extracurricular activities, and competitions organized by his office to encourage holistic student growth.
Representing the Supreme Student Council (SSC), Maโam Veronica Gutierrez, SSC Adviser, shared the councilโs mission, leadership initiatives, student-centered programs, and campus-wide activities that foster student engagement and responsible leadership.
The final presentation of the afternoon was delivered by Sir Crisver Susa, ICS Student Body Organization (SBO) Adviser, who introduced the Institute of Computing Studies (ICS) Student Body Organization and its affiliated organizations. These include PCBITS and its sub-organizations: FLUID, DAGAW, Brush and Pixels, Crimson Sentinel/Crimson Network, IT Girls, Acafellas, Syntax Sorcerers, ICSpiders, E-Strats, Sisiwit, Kapit Lang, and Salicsik. He encouraged students to actively participate in these organizations to develop their leadership skills, talents, and sense of community.
The third and final part of the orientation formally commenced with the opening remarks of Sir Paul Richie Asuncion, Dean of the Institute of Computing Studies (ICS). In his message, he welcomed the freshmen and encouraged them to embrace the opportunities, challenges, and responsibilities that come with college life. He emphasized the value of discipline, perseverance, and active participation in both academic and co-curricular activities.
One of the highlights of the program was the introduction of the collegeโs instructors and program chairpersons. The faculty members were formally presented to the incoming students, allowing them to become acquainted with the educators who will guide and mentor them throughout their academic journey at the Polytechnic College of Botolan.
The orientation concluded with students gaining a deeper understanding of the institutionโs policies, services, academic resources, and student organizations. Through the collaborative efforts of the college administrators, faculty members, and student affairs personnel, the activity successfully prepared the new generation of PCB students for a productive, responsible, and meaningful college experience.
