| Eastern Samar State University proudly celebrates its 2026 UI GreenMetric World University Rankings results, placing Rank 4 in Eastern Visayas, Rank 32 in the Philippines, and Rank 688 worldwide—affirming the University’s continuing commitment to sustainability, innovation, and responsible development.

This significant milestone under the exemplary leadership of University President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr. was made possible through the dedicated efforts of the Office of the Vice President for External Affairs and Quality Assurance, led by Dr. Jocelyn S. Castro, together with the committed Technical Working Groups (TWGs) across ESSU campuses.

More than a ranking, this recognition affirms ESSU’s collective commitment to building a greener, more sustainable, and future-ready university. Eastern Samar State University Internationalization (IZN) Office headed by Vice President for External Affairs and Quality Assurance, Dr. Jocelyn S. Castro, Head of Student and Faculty Mobility, Ms. Marianne P. Cabantoc, and Head of Internationalization Programs of ESSU Guiuan, Mr. Bert Jameson D. Daria attended this year’s Filipino Leaders in Advancing International Reputation (FLARE) Masterclass Year 2 for Eastern Visayas held from September 22-24, 2026 at Summit Hotel, Tacloban City, Leyte.

Eastern Visayas IZN top officials were gathered for an intensive masterclass to the different prominent international global university ranking systems such as World University Rankings for Innovation (WURI), Times Higher Education (THE), and Quacquarelli Symonds (QS).

The masterclass ended with a Commitment Signing by all IZN officials present. Said activity shows their commitment to use what they learned to improve the internationalization efforts of their respective institutions. For ESSU, the activity supports its efforts to build stronger international partnerships and increase its presence in the global academic community.

Eastern Samar State University was conferred by the Department of Budget and Management (DBM) Regional Office VIII with the Higher Education Resource Partnership Award, recognizing the University’s partnership in advancing accessible quality higher education while upholding responsible management of public resources.

Under the visionary leadership of University President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., ESSU continues to strengthen its commitment to sound fiscal management and responsible stewardship of public resources.

ESSU Vice President for Administration, Dr. Ruben E. Voloso, and Supervising Administrative Officer (Budget Officer IV), Ms. Gemma B. Paano, accepted the award on Thursday, September 17, 2026, during DBM’s Project BISIG event at the Leyte Convention Complex in Palo, Leyte.

Project BISIG provides a platform for DBM RO VIII to recognize partner institutions that contribute to fiscal responsibility and stronger public-sector governance in Eastern Visayas.

For ESSU, the recognition affirms that responsible budgeting and financial management remain integral to delivering quality public higher education and meaningful services to its stakeholders.

The Research Development Services Office (RDSO) conducted its Third Quarter In-House Review of Research Proposals and Completed Research on September 23-24, 2026, at the Graduate School AVR of the Main Campus.

The two-day activity provided faculty researchers across the ESSU System an opportunity to present their research proposals and completed studies before a panel of university evaluators led by RDSO Assistant Director, Dr. Riomar A. Obliopas. This exercise is part and parcel of the office’s continuing efforts to strengthen the quality and relevance of the institution’s research output, in fulfillment of its mandate.

𝐄𝐒𝐒𝐔 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐅𝐘 𝟐𝟎𝟐𝟕 𝐒𝐔𝐂 𝐁𝐮𝐝𝐠𝐞𝐭 𝐇𝐞𝐚𝐫𝐢𝐧𝐠

Eastern Samar State University (ESSU) officials, led by University President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan Jr., are participating in the Fiscal Year (FY) 2027 State Universities and Colleges (SUC) Budget Hearing at the House of Representatives from September 22 to 24, 2026.

The hearing brings together officials from state universities and colleges to discuss their proposed FY 2027 budgets and funding requirements. The proceedings are chaired by Cong. Jude Avorque Acidre.

Among the ESSU representatives is Dr. Jerald P. Torillo, Campus Administrator of ESSU Maydolong, who is attending alongside President Pagatpatan and campus administrators from other ESSU campuses.

As the proceedings continue, the ESSU delegation is expected to present the university’s funding requirements and priorities for its academic programs, operations, and development initiatives for the coming fiscal year.

ESSU’s participation forms part of the ongoing congressional deliberations on the proposed FY 2027 national budget.

The College of Technology and Architecture (COTA) of the ESSU Main Campus treated its pioneering batch of Bachelor of Science in Architecture (BSA) students to a Symposium on the Architecture Profession, providing them with meaningful insights into the discipline and the professional journey that lies ahead on September 17, 2026.

The activity forms part of COTA’s efforts to inspire a deeper understanding and stronger commitment among its students toward their chosen program and future profession. By bringing the academe and the professional community together, the symposium gave the students an opportunity to learn directly from practicing architects and gain a broader perspective on the opportunities, responsibilities, and challenges associated with the field.

Integral to the success of the activity was the valuable partnership of the United Architects of the Philippines (UAP) Samar Sinirangan Chapter, whose President, Ar. Mark Junrey Alegre and Vice President for Operations, Ar. Leddie May Celada-Cidro served as the event’s main guests and resource speakers. The chapter also demonstrated its support for the emerging architecture program by turning over six sets of electric fans for use in the BSA classrooms.

The symposium likewise provided a platform for open dialogue between the students and ESSU President Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr. himself during the Q&A session on how their instructional resources and learning facilities can be further improved. Dr. Pagatpatan personally engaged with the students, listening to their insights and responding to their concerns, while emphasizing the University’s commitment to providing an environment that supports quality learning and professional preparation.

𝐂𝐀𝐆 𝐇𝐨𝐥𝐝𝐬 𝟐𝐧𝐝 𝐂𝐞𝐫𝐭𝐢𝐟𝐢𝐜𝐚𝐭𝐞 𝐨𝐟 𝐀𝐠𝐫𝐢𝐜𝐮𝐥𝐭𝐮𝐫𝐚𝐥 𝐒𝐜𝐢𝐞𝐧𝐜𝐞 𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐟𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐞𝐧𝐭 𝐑𝐢𝐭𝐞𝐬

ESSU Main Campus' College of Agriculture (CAG) held its 2nd Certificate of Agricultural Science Conferment Ceremony last Thursday, September 17 at Teatro Ibabawnon, recognizing 109 students who successfully completed two years of the Bachelor of Science in Agriculture program.

Themed, “Honoring Excellence, Cultivating Knowledge, and Growing Toward a Brighter Future”, the affair was attended by the parents and families, faculty members, and university officials to help inspire their continued pursuit of agricultural education. The conferment ceremony provides CAG students a special celebration to mark an important milestone in their academic preparation.

In attendance at the event were ESSU’s visionary University President, Dr. Andres C. Pagatpatan, Jr., together with Dr. Aris A. Lapada, Vice President for Academic Affairs, and the College of Agriculture faculty and staff, headed by Dr. Sharon B. Singzon. Their presence demonstrated the University’s continued support for the academic development and professional preparation of its agriculture students.

Serving as guest speaker was Mr. Salvador M. Dalosa, Municipal Agriculturist of the Municipality of Oras and an alumnus of the ESSU College of Agriculture. His participation highlighted the value of professional experience and continuing commitment to the development of the agriculture sector.
