Safety Tip: Watch your ascent rate on all dives. You should never exceed an ascent rate of 10 metres per minute when diving shallower than about 30m. An ascent rate of 5-6 metres per minute is recommended in the last 10m of ascent.
Divers have suffered from decompression illness (DCI) after ascending from depths as shallow as about 6-7 m. It used to be thought that a diver had to dive deeper than 10 m before DCI was a risk, but this is now known to be untrue.
