Shaping Inclusive Spaces: Empowering Minds through Gender and Development and the Safe Spaces Act

Today marked the 8th Training Day of the NSTP-CWTS. The first year college students gathered for an insightful Gender and Development (GAD) Orientation with the GAD Focal Person Ms. Marie Grace Anne M. Reynoso and led the participants in diving deep into the principles of inclusivity, equality, and social respect including the Safe Spaces Act.

From breaking down stereotypes to understanding how gender equality builds stronger communities, the students showed incredible enthusiasm and open minds. Real change starts with awareness, and today, the students took a huge step toward becoming proactive, gender-sensitive student leaders.

Special thanks to Asst. Prof. Arnel M. Lantita, Director of Student Development, Engagement and Governance Division, for inviting the GAD Unit to impart knowledge and practical experience for the 1st-year students. Thank you also to the NSTP-CWTS Facilitators and student leaders for making today's session a resounding success! Let's keep creating safe, inclusive spaces for everyone—on campus and beyond. ✨💜

What if every development project asked not only, “What do we want to achieve?” but also, “What gender needs and concerns should we consider to make sure no one is left behind?”

The Harmonized Gender and Development Guidelines (HGDG), 3rd Edition, provides a common framework for integrating gender perspectives into the development and implementation of programs and projects. It helps government agencies, donor organizations, and other stakeholders strengthen the gender responsiveness of development initiatives.

The HGDG includes sector-specific GAD checklists for areas such as agriculture, climate change, disaster risk reduction, education, health, ICT, infrastructure, labor and employment, migration, tourism, and women in areas under armed conflict, among others.

For GAD practitioners, the HGDG serves as a practical guide for applying a gender lens throughout the project cycle—from development and planning to implementation, monitoring, and evaluation.

Marinduque State University continues its active engagement as a member in the Provincial GFPS-Technical Working Group. Held on September 2, 2026, the University led by Prof. Dr. Diosdado P. Zulueta was represented by GAD Focal Person Ms. Marie Grace Anne M. Reynoso during the 3rd Quarter GFPS-TWG Meeting along with other dedicated members and representatives at the LMD-PESO Hall, Capitol Compound, Santol, Boac, Marinduque.

A major milestone of yesterday's session was the thoughtful consideration given to the University's proposed GAD projects for 2027 funding by the Provincial Government of Marinduque. This collaborative effort ensures that the institution's GAD projects and activities continue to gain ground and make a meaningful impact in the community.

The University extends its heartfelt gratitude to the Provincial Government of Marinduque for their unwavering support and enduring partnership in advancing its GAD initiatives throughout the years.
