SELG student leaders unveil visionary school-wide initiatives for SY 2025–2026 through SOLGA

In a humble display of student leadership and dedication to school development, the Supreme Elementary Learner Government (SELG) of Sawi Elementary School delivered its annual Statement of the Learner Government Address (SOLGA) on July 9, 2025, Wednesday at Sawi ES Social Hall.

Spearheaded by the school SELG President Kristoffer S. Montealegre under the guidance of Mrs. Maryjoy M. Larracas, SELG Teacher-Adviser with the supervision of Mr. Ariel M. Peñaroyo, School Head, the event united students from Grades 1 to 6 as well as their teachers for the formal presentation of SELG’s Programs, Projects and Activities (PPAs) for the current school year.

Montealegre presented a comprehensive lineup of strategic initiatives designed to cultivate leadership, environmental awareness, student engagement and overall well-being of students.

Among the key programs unveiled were the Coastal Clean-Up Drive, SPG Vegetable Gardening Project, Rosary Brigade, Talentadong Sawians (a school-wide showcase of talents) and the Solid Waste Management Program—each crafted to instill values such as discipline, creativity, teamwork and civic responsibility.

In line with SELG’s inclusive approach to student development, additional initiatives were announced including psychosocial support activities, a school-wide sports fest and a Christmas Caroling event aimed at fostering unity, self-expression and school spirit.

Montealegre encouraged all learners to actively engage in these efforts, emphasizing the SELG’s role as the umbrella organization for all school clubs.

“Let us move forward united in purpose — not just as students but as stewards of positive change in our school,” he said.

Meanwhile, Mr. Peñaroyo lauded the SELG’s proactive leadership, emphasizing the critical role of student governance in creating an inclusive and dynamic school environment.

“True leadership means uplifting others and working together for the common good,” said Penaroyo.

Additionally, Mrs. Larracas called for unified support from both students and teachers. She expressed confidence in the SELG’s ability to lead with purpose and inclusivity.

“When we unite with shared goals and open hearts, we can accomplish anything,” she stated.

The event concluded on an inspiring note with students and faculty members energized by the SELG’s clear vision and plans. As the new academic year unfolds, Sawi Elementary School moves forward with renewed enthusiasm guided by student-led initiatives and a shared commitment to positive change.

SES inaugurates new gate, highlights Alumni-led security upgrade, community unity

Sawi Elementary School officially opened its newly built school gate with a blessing ceremony following a Eucharistic celebration officiated by Rev. Fr. Reynel Sajul, marking both a physical upgrade to the school’s entrance and a symbolic beginning for the community.

Held on June 24, 2025, the event brought together the school teaching force headed by Mr. Ariel M. Peñaroyo, Head Teacher II along with learners, parents and local stakeholders.

The new structure, spearheaded and funded by the Sawi Elementary School Alumni Association (SESAA) replaced the school’s aging, worn-out gate and signaled a renewed focus on school security and community pride.

Rev. Fr. Sajul, in his homily, drew parallels between the gate and the Gospel message on the mission of St. John the Baptist, urging the community to “prepare the way for the Lord” --- a message he connected to the school’s role in shaping young minds.

“This is more than just a gate. It’s a statement of faith, growth and shared commitment to the future,” the priest said during the blessing.

In a community where educational infrastructure upgrades are often slow and underfunded, the alumni-led effort stands out as an oddity --- a symbol of grassroots action in a time of stretched public resources.

The event concluded with prayers for safety and academic success underscoring the school’s mission to provide a secure and nurturing environment for learners.

The gate now stands not just as a physical barrier but as a beacon of collaboration, shared responsibility and shared goals of academic excellence and spiritual development.

To enhance digital learning, laptops donated by the Commission on Audit (COA) Central Office (through an alumna, Mrs. Dia M. Mogol), have been utilized by Mrs. Edna H. Jagong, ICT teacher and her pupils on June 20, 2025 during classroom instruction.
Meanwhile, laptops from the DepEd Computerization Program (DCP) Package provided by the DepEd Central Office further complement the ICT resources of the school ensuring that teachers and learners have access to updated and functional technology.
Students now have more opportunities to collaborate on projects and showcase digital outputs.

Pupils brave the shake: School holds 2nd Quarter NSED to boost disaster readiness

Underscoring its commitment to safety and disaster resilience, the school conducted on June 19, Thursday, the Second Quarter National Simultaneous Earthquake Drill (NSED). The event drew full participation from Kindergarten to Grade Six learners, together with faculty, staff and supportive parents.

Spearheaded by School NSED Coordinator Mrs. Eugenia B. Prieto and closely supervised by School Head Mr. Ariel M. Peñaroyo, the drill aimed to enhance awareness and develop proper response strategies among learners in the event of an earthquake.

The simulation began promptly at 9:00 a.m. with the sounding of the emergency alarm. Upon hearing the signal, pupils quickly carried out the "Duck, Cover, and Hold" maneuver inside their classrooms following procedures taught in their pre-drill briefings.

After the simulated tremor, teachers led their respective classes to designated evacuation areas. The evacuation process was carried out in a calm, disciplined manner.

Upon reaching the assembly area, Mr. Peñaroyo addressed the school community, emphasizing the importance of alertness, composure, and coordination during disasters. He also demonstrated the official sequence of earthquake response procedures ----- from initial ground shaking to safe evacuation and post-evacuation headcount.

To simulate real-world disaster scenarios, selected students took part in a mock injury drill. Learners with feigned wounds were treated on-site by assigned first-aid personnel, reinforcing the importance of immediate medical response in emergency situations.

Mrs. Prieto lauded the learners, teachers and staff for their cooperation and discipline during the activity. She noted significant improvements in both evacuation speed and coordination, stating that regular drills are key to developing instinctive safety habits among students.

Classroom debriefings followed immediately after the drill. Teachers facilitated feedback sessions, allowing students to reflect on their experiences and contribute suggestions for future drills. The discussions highlighted strengths in ex*****on as well as areas requiring further improvement.

The school reaffirmed its commitment to ongoing disaster preparedness through continuous education, simulation activities and collaboration with stakeholders. According to Mr. Peñaroyo, proactive measures like these are vital in safeguarding the welfare of the entire school community.

With its structured implementation and realistic simulation, the earthquake drill served not only as a preparedness exercise but also as a crucial educational experience for learners, instilling confidence and readiness in times of uncertainty.
