The Sierra Madre is doing her part to keep us safe!
Our nation's longest mountain range, the Sierra Madre, continues to be the country's first line of defense against the violent typhoon we are currently facing. She stretches throughout Luzon's eastern coast, reducing the strength of storms and sparing countless lives and communities from destruction.
Her ecosystems, rivers, and forests not only defend against disasters but also maintain biodiversity and control the climate.
As a Yes-O government, we understand how important the Sierra Madre is to preserving our future. She does her part now by protecting us. Our responsibility now is to protect and preserve her. The strength, security, and sustainability of our country depend on the Sierra Madre's survival, so let's band together to save it."

Other than mangroves, wetlands also play a crucial role in flood mitigation. Wetlands act as natural sponges that absorb excess rainfall and gradually release it over time. During heavy rain, they hold large volumes of water, which reduceas the peak flow and speed of floodwaters moving downstream. By storing this water, wetlands help to slow runoff, which prevents rivers from overflowing rapidly and minimizes the risk of flash flooding. This storage capacity is vital in managing floods, especially in low-lying areas prone to intense rainfall.
Moreover, wetlands help to stabilize soil and reduce erosion, which further strengthens flood resilience. Wetland vegetation, such as grasses and shrubs, has deep root systems that bind the soil, making it less likely to wash away in a flood. This rooted vegetation acts as a barrier, reducing the energy and speed of incoming water. Wetlands also filter water by trapping sediments and pollutants, improving water quality and providing a healthier downstream ecosystem. These combined effects of water absorption, soil stabilization, and filtration make wetlands an essential natural defense against flooding.

Last August 27-28, 2024:
Turning trash into EXTRA-ordinary science!
Physics Concepts in Action:
๐ต Newton's Laws of Motion (Kasi may action = reaction... parang sa loyal na jowa, charot! ๐)
๐ต Air Pressure (Parang stress level ng students bago mag-launch!)
๐ต Projectile Motion (Yung trajectory ng bottle, hindi yung trajectory ng love life at grades ๐๐ ๐)
๐ต Conservation of Energy (Sana ma-conserve din ang allowance ๐ธ)
๐ต Thrust Force (Push mo 'yan, et!)
Who knew plastic bottles had a better chance of reaching the sky than our grades? ๐

Fun Fact: Hindi lang plastic bottles ang nag-le-launch... pati dreams of becoming future scientists! ๐

With the ongoing crisis of the Tropical Storm Kristine, it is essential to be aware on what to do during a tropical storm. We are dedicated to spreading awareness during typhoon season. Before the storm hits, itโs essential to prepare by gathering supplies, securing your home, and staying informed about weather updates. Create an emergency plan with your family, and make sure everyone knows what to do. Donโt forget to check on your neighbors, especially those who may need extra assistance.
During the typhoon, your safety is our priority. Stay indoors, away from windows, and listen to local authorities for updates. As a Yes-O organization, we encourage you to be proactive in reporting hazards once the storm has passed and to seek support within your community. Together, we can recover and rebuild stronger than ever. Stay safe, and letโs look out for one another!
