Wednesday Vegetable Dish Day

Celebrate Wednesday Vegetable Dish Day with a delicious and nutritious Ginataang Monggo with Squash and Malunggay! This comforting Filipino dish combines wholesome local ingredients that nourish the body and support overall health.

Monggo (mung beans) is an excellent source of plant-based protein, dietary fiber, iron, and folate, helping build and repair body tissues while promoting healthy digestion. Squash (kalabasa) is rich in beta-carotene and vitamin A, which support healthy eyesight, glowing skin, and a strong immune system. Malunggay (moringa) is packed with vitamins A and C, calcium, iron, and antioxidants that help strengthen immunity and promote healthy bones and blood.

The addition of coconut milk (gata) provides healthy fats that enhance the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins, adds energy, and gives the dish its rich, creamy flavor.

This Nutrition Month, let’s enjoy nutritious, affordable, and locally sourced meals that keep us healthy and energized. Eat well, stay healthy, and make every meal count!

🥥🌿 Wednesday Vegetable Dish Day 🌿🥥

“Savor Local, Nourish Better!

Today’s Featured Dish: Bamboo Shoots and Squash in Coconut Milk.”

Bamboo shoots are a good source of dietary fiber, potassium, and B vitamins, which support healthy digestion, heart function, and energy metabolism.

Squash is rich in vitamin A (beta-carotene) for healthy vision and immunity, vitamin C for wound healing, and fiber for digestive health.

Coconut milk provides healthy fats that add flavor and help with the absorption of fat-soluble vitamins such as vitamins A, D, E, and K when eaten as part of a balanced diet.

“Healthy meals begin with local ingredients—choose vegetables, eat balanced, and stay nourished every day!” 🌱🥕🥥

DLSJBC officially launched its Nutrition Month 2026 on July 1, 2026, highlighted by an Interdepartmental Mystery Box Cooking Challenge participated in by our higher education students.

This activity is designed to promote healthy eating habits and nutrition awareness among students through an engaging experiential learning activity.

This activity emphasizes the importance of vegetable as core component of a healthy diet, encouraging creativity in transforming simple ingredients into wholesome dishes. The msytery box format challenges students to think critically, work effectively and apply basic nutrition principles under time constraints- skills relevant both in daily life and future professional setting.

Futhermore, it supports the school advocacy for sustainability and responsible food practices by promoting mindful ingredient use, proper waste management and food safety.
