Sometimes excited, sometimes sleepy, sometimes wishing the day would end a little sooner. We walked through the same hallways, sat in the same classroom, complained about the same deadlines, laughed over the smallest things, and counted the minutes until dismissal.

Back then, we never knew we were living in memories.

It felt like Senior High would last forever.

We thought there would always be another morning to arrive late, another lunch break to spend together, another ordinary day that we would barely notice.

But somehow, the last day came.

We have new classrooms, new responsibilities, and new versions of ourselves that we are still learning to become. Our schedules became busier. Our lives are slowly moving in different directions. We meet new people, chase new dreams, and walk through unfamiliar hallways.

Yet sometimes, in the middle of all this growing up, our hearts find their way back to our chaotic sectionโ€”๐‘บ๐’•. ๐‘ด๐’๐’๐’Š๐’„๐’‚

We miss the little things most.

The days when our biggest problems were unfinished activities, reporting, and deadlines we swore we could never survive. Especially the laughter that echoed all the way to the faculty office, and the friendships that made even the most exhausting days bearable.

It's comforting to know that the same people would still be there tomorrow. We didn't even realize how precious those ordinary moments were because, at the time, they were simply our everyday lives.

If we had known they would become memories, maybe we would have stayed a little longer after class. Maybe we would have taken more pictures. Maybe we would have laughed harder, hugged tighter, and said, โ€œIโ€™m going to miss this,โ€ before it was already over.

Time does not ask permission before moving forward. It simply takes us with it. And perhaps that is what growing up meansโ€”learning that some places are meant to be left, but never truly forgotten.

St. Monica will always be one of those places.

It is more than just a section to us now. It is a chapter of our lives that will forever carry the weight of our dreams, the messiness of our youth, and the people we once were.

Years from now, we may forget the exact lessons we learned in those classrooms. We may forget the things we used to worry about. But we will remember how it felt. We will remember having people who made an ordinary school day feel like something worth keeping.

And whenever life becomes overwhelmingโ€”we always had each other.

Perhaps someday, we will return to those familiar halls. Maybe the rooms will look smaller, the corridors become quiet, and everything will seem strangely different.

But for one brief moment, we might hear the echoes of our younger selves.

Laughing.
Running.
Learning.
Growing.

And we will realize that although we can never go back, a part of us never really left.

Because some places are not meant to be returned to.

They are meant to be carried within our hearts.

And wherever life takes us from here, we will carry St. Monica with usโ€”not as the section we used to attend, but as the home of some of the most beautiful memories we will ever have.

Looking back at this outreach program still felt fulfilling. This moment isn't just about helping one another by having a feeding program and a little donation, it is the fact that we have instilled hope within these childrenโ€”that itself is a long term impact. No matter how big or small our act of kindness may be, the moment we show up sometimes means more than the actual help we extend them. That is the power of showing up. The power of hope. The power of HUMANITY.

Dr. Jose Rizal's famous line "ang kabataan ang pag-asa ng bayan", is an impactful quote that must serve as our guide that we must invest in children as they are the hope of our country in the future, and to do that, we must first fill them with hope as well.

Moments like these unites us HUMANISTA of batch 2025-2026, having the same heart for fellow people, for public service. That's what makes us a St. Monicaโ€”a section that may be full of laughter, thus, full of genuine hearts.

In this outreach feeding program, we have came home with a realization: wanting to be a 'somebody to someone' isn't just about having power enough to give people the help they needโ€”but showing up is more than enough to be one.

75 year old Monica Moraรฑa, known affectionately in her community as Lola Poka, spent her days alone in her small home in Sitio Nato, Barangay Aguisan. Although her daughter-in-law regularly checked on her and helped whenever she could, there were still days when the only companion Lola Poka had was the silence surrounding her home.

On May 29, 2026, students from St. Monica visited Lola Poka. They brought groceries and basic necessities, hoping to ease even a small part of her daily struggles. When asked if there was anything else she wished for, Lola Poka did not ask for money. She did not ask for a larger house or expensive possessions.

She simply said that she wanted a radio. Not for music alone, but for company.

She wanted voices filling the quiet corners of her house, something that would make the silence feel a little less lonely. Her wish was simple, yet it carried the weight of a lonely heart.

Touched by her humility, the students promised themselves they would return with the one thing she had asked for. They prepared a radio, excited to surprise the woman whose gratitude had left a lasting impression on them.

On July 1, 2026, before the students could return and give the radio into her hands, Lola Poka peacefully passed away. The gift she had longed for arrived, but the ears that wished to hear it had already fallen silent.

Her final wish was never extravagant. She simply wanted something that could make her home feel less empty.

Although she never had the chance to listen to the radio prepared especially for her, her story continues to speak louder than any broadcast ever could. It lives on in the hearts of those who met her, reminding us that even the simplest act of compassion can become a lasting memory in someone's life. And that sometimes, what people need most is simply to know they are not alone.

Lola Poka may no longer hear the voices from the radio she wished for, but her own story will continue to be heard by everyone it touches.

HUMSS students in the Philippines continue to face unequal access to scholarships and opportunities, as many programs in universities prioritize STEM-related courses. This disparity often creates stereotypes that Humanities and Social Sciences are less valuable those in science and technology, despite their vital role in society. True educational equality means recognizing that all strands contribute differently but equally to the nation. Every student deserves fair opportunities regardless of their chosen academic path without being judged or limited by the perceived value of their strand.

If thereโ€™s one thing that could describe HUMSS, it is ๐’„๐’‰๐’‚๐’๐’•๐’Š๐’„โ€”but in that very chaos, there is ๐’‰๐’๐’Ž๐’†.

It was the strand where opinions were voiced without hesitation and where every discussion could turn into a full-blown debate. It was chaotic in the best way possible. But within that chaos, we found something deeper; ๐’‚ ๐’‘๐’๐’‚๐’„๐’† ๐’˜๐’‰๐’†๐’“๐’† ๐’˜๐’† ๐’ƒ๐’†๐’๐’๐’๐’ˆ๐’†๐’….

As HUMSS graduates of St. Monica, we carry more than lessons written on paper. We carry the stories we shared, the perspectives of others we learned to respect, and the courage we discovered within ourselves to speak.

As we step into the next chapter of our lives, we will carry with us the connections we built and the bonds that grew stronger through every shared experience. We will remember the conversations that continued long after the lessons ended, the loud laughter, the random debates and reckless arguments.

As Alyssa Jan Ganzon said in her speech โ€œ

And perhaps that is what HUMSS truly taught us; that our voices matter, our stories matter, and even in the loudest, most chaotic moments, we can find meaning and a place we can always call home.

A small act of kindness may bring a big impact to someone.

Humanities and Social Sciences students truly showed and practiced the value that a real HUMANISTA should haveโ€”solidarity. Despite being physically tired after their two-day retreat, they continued their mission without hesitation and proceeded with their outreach feeding program at Sitio Pasil, Brgy. Enclaro, in collaboration with the SPAG-ASA Feeding Program founded by Rev. Fr. Jude Garceniego.

Aside from providing meals, one of the students also generously shared their pre-loved clothes with the children, bringing not only material help but also joy and comfort.

With these simple acts of service, the students proved that compassion and unity can create meaningful change in the lives of others.

For St. Monica students, this outreach program was more than just an activityโ€”it was a reminder that even the smallest acts of kindness, when done with sincere hearts, can leave a lasting impact on a community.

Seeing the children's smile already made their hearts filled with joy and warmth that no other rest could provide. Padayon.

Our short film that is entitled "Syete", recently made its mark at the Colegio San Agustรญn Bacolod A-Pop Festival. While we didnโ€™t bring the trophy home, the opportunity to show our work on the big screen was an achievement in itself.

Standing alongside talented filmmakers, witnessing their creativity, and being part of a community that celebrates storytelling reminded us that the value of the experience goes far beyond any trophy.

The doors that opened through this experience may lead to paths even greater than we could have imagined. In the world of filmmaking, every opportunity is a stepping stone, and perhaps this moment was simply the ๐˜ฃ๐˜ฆ๐˜จ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜ฏ๐˜ช๐˜ฏ๐˜จ of something bigger.

๐‘บ๐’š๐’†๐’•๐’† may have not brought home the trophy, but the memories and the unexpected friendship it brought us are prizes in their own right.
