The Memorial of the Presentation of the Blessed Virgin Mary in the Temple recalls – according to the apocryphal gospels, the day on which Mary, while still a child, was brought to the temple in Jerusalem to be offered to God. The Church wants to emphasize not so much the historical event in itself, of which there is no trace in the Gospels, but the total gift that Mary made of herself, by listening: “Blessed are those who hear the Word of God and observe it” (Lk. 11:28). This experience prepared the young girl from Nazareth to become the “temple of the Son of God”.

The celebration of this feast dates back to the 6th century in the East with the dedication of the Basilica of Saint Mary the New built by the Emperor Justinian I near the ruins of the temple in Jerusalem. There is evidence that various monasteries in Italy celebrated the feast in the 9th century. It was not until the 15th century that it was included in the Roman Missal.

The Office of the City Mayor, Hon. Benjie Miranda, together with Vice Mayor Divina Superal Miranda, will assist aspiring scholars of the Negros Occidental Scholarship Program (NOSP) for School Year 2026–2027.

📌 Important Deadlines:

NOSP Application Deadline: November 30, 2025

Mayor’s Office Submission Deadline: November 27, 2025 (to allow sufficient time for processing)

Grade 12 students and 2nd-year college students enrolled in State Universities and Colleges are encouraged to apply.

Download the Application Form and brochure from the links above, or get a copy from the NOSP Office or Kabankalan Mayor’s Office.

Complete the Application Form and attach the initial requirements.

Initial Requirements:

A. Fully accomplished NOSP Application Form with a recent 2x2 photo
B. Photocopy of Birth Certificate
C. Photocopy of School Records:

Grade 12 applicants: Form 138 (Grade 12 graduates) or Grade 11 Report Card

College applicants: Transcript of Records (TOR)

Additional Requirements (if applicable):

I.P.: Genealogy Form or Certificate of Confirmation

NOPMaNS: Latest BIR Income Tax Return or Tax Exemption of Parents/Guardian

CoNROFW: Photocopy of Parent’s Passport Biopage with latest arrival stamp in the Philippines

All documents submitted to the Mayor’s Office will be transmitted to NOSPD.
