Congratulations to Beacon Academy’s Grade 12 Chemistry students, Bianca, Patrick, and Rylee, who proudly earned a Silver Award in the 2025 International Team Chemistry Challenge!

Competing against teams from around the world, they analyzed a case study on river pollution and proposed an innovative solution: chitosan-based bioplastics made from local seafood waste. With the Philippines generating over 250,000 tons of seafood byproducts each year, their idea turns an overlooked resource into a sustainable, eco-friendly material.

Congratulations to our young chemists for their creativity, insight, and outstanding achievement on the international stage!

Last week, the Beacon Academy Grade 10 students proudly held their IB MYP Work in Progress Fair, an event designed to highlight the ongoing development of their Personal Projects. The fair offered students an opportunity to present their ideas, research, and early prototypes, giving the community a glimpse into the creativity, curiosity, and commitment behind these long-term projects.

Parents, teachers, and peers visited student booths to learn about a wide range of topics—each reflecting the students’ personal interests and growing independence as learners. The fair also allowed students to practice communicating their process, challenges, and next steps as they continue refining their work.

The event marked an important milestone in the Grade 10 journey, setting the stage for the final Personal Project Exhibition later this school year.

The Beacon Academy is thrilled to have BA parent and multi-awarded professional photographer Tom Epperson share his expertise through a four-part Photography Master Class with our Grade 9 Design students.

With decades of experience in commercial and fine art photography, Mr. Epperson brings a wealth of knowledge and creative insight to the classroom. Through hands-on sessions, students are learning to see the world through a photographer’s eye — exploring composition, lighting, storytelling, and the art of capturing emotion in an image. His engaging and interactive approach has inspired students to think more deeply about design, creativity, and visual communication.
