Faculty of Tourism and Hospitality Management Conducts Classroom Readiness Visit Ahead of University Opening

Following two days of strategic planning and onboarding sessions at Fragoch Tourist Inn, the faculty of the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management (STHM) carried out a classroom readiness inspection today in preparation for the University-wide Opening of Classes on July 20, 2026, marking the start of Academic Year 2026โ€“2027.

Faculty members visited their assigned classrooms to ensure that facilities are properly arranged and conducive for teaching and learning. This initiative underscores the schoolโ€™s commitment to providing a well-prepared academic environment for students as they return to campus.

The faculty expressed their gratitude to the EPDO personnel for their dedicated efforts in facilitating cleaning and restoration works. Their support has made classroom preparations more convenient and efficient, allowing faculty to focus on instructional readiness.

Classroom readiness remains ongoing, with final touches being completed to guarantee that all rooms meet the standards of safety, cleanliness, and functionality before the official opening of classes.

This collaborative effort reflects the Universityโ€™s proactive stance in ensuring that both faculty and students begin the academic year in a well-prepared and supportive learning environment.

The second day of the Strategic Faculty Onboarding and Alignment of Academic Standards, Planning, and Faculty Performance emphasized strengthening faculty competence, reinforcing institutional standards, and advancing the School of Tourism and Hospitality Management's commitment to academic excellence and student success.

The morning session continued with discussions on grading policies, syllabus standardization, and instructional planning, where faculty members agreed on measures to promote consistency in assessment, quality instruction, and constructive alignment of teaching and learning outcomes for Academic Year 2026โ€“2027.

A key highlight of the afternoon was the Academic Policies and Faculty Standards Orientation delivered by Ms. Arrah Mae B. Tambis, HRMO III. She discussed the rights, responsibilities, and ethical obligations of faculty members as public servants, emphasizing professionalism, accountability, and adherence to University policies and Republic Act No. 6713 (Code of Conduct and Ethical Standards for Public Officials and Employees). She also provided important updates on the newly approved Implementing Rules and Regulations governing faculty appointments, equipping faculty members with a clearer understanding of institutional expectations and professional standards.

Representing the student body, Mr. Diaz, President of the STHM Supreme Student Council, presented the Council's proposed programs and activities for Academic Year 2026โ€“2027. His presentation highlighted initiatives that promote student leadership, engagement, mental health, values formation, and a safe, inclusive learning environment. The proposed activities reflect the Council's commitment to supporting the holistic development and well-being of every STHM student.

The program concluded with an inspiring message from University President Dr. Victor C. Caรฑezo Jr., who reminded faculty members that students remain at the center of the University's mission. He emphasized that education extends beyond imparting knowledgeโ€”it is about transforming lives and creating opportunities for future generations. Citing that approximately 82% of the University's graduates in the previous academic year were the first college graduates in their respective families, he underscored the profound impact that dedicated educators have on individuals, families, and communities.

With these words, Dr. Caรฑezo encouraged every faculty member to recognize the potential of each learner and to nurture that potential through quality instruction, compassionate mentorship, and values-driven education.

Dr. Erwin Salvatierra, Vice President for Academic and Lifelong Learning, underscored the urgent completion of all course syllabi before the opening of School Year 2027. To sustain curriculum quality, the Teaching and Learning Curriculum Office proposed the conduct of an annual Curriculum Summit to regularly review and enhance academic programs.

Mr. Carlito Cabas discussed the key requirements of a CHED-validated curriculum, highlighting the importance of curriculum innovation, outcomes-based education (OBE), and alignment among Program Educational Objectives (PEO), Program Outcomes (PO), Course Outcomes (CO), and Intended Learning Outcomes (ILO). He further emphasized the integration of innovations through the OCAD framework (Outcomes, Content, Assessment, and Delivery), the application of the Introduceโ€“Enableโ€“Demonstrate (IED) learning progression, and the alignment of course outcomes and assessment measures with CHED standards and industry expectations.

The meeting reinforced the Universityโ€™s commitment to developing a quality, outcomes-based, industry-responsive, and CHED-compliant curriculum. Immediate priorities include the completion of all course syllabi and curriculum profiles, alongside preparations for continuous curriculum review through stakeholder engagement.

The session was held on July 9, 2026, at 9:00 AM in the faculty room. Originally scheduled for July 7, it was moved to July 9 due to the approved faculty screening schedule. The meeting was attended by program chairpersons Dr. Claire Frances Barahan and Dr. Alexander Rex Sanosa, and was led by the Dean, Dr. Estelito Rosa Salut, Jr. Faculty members were also present to be onboarded regarding the responsibility of preparing syllabi for every semester.
