BeSPED Holds Year-End GPTA Assembly

Benguet SPED's parents and faculty members gathered at the school’s quadrangle on March 21 for the school’s year-end General Parent-Teacher Association (GPTA) Assembly, reaffirming their shared commitment to transparency and collaboration.

The reading of the minutes from the previous meeting was presented to ensure continuity and clarity in the association’s activities. Updates on funds, collections, and expenses were also presented, reinforcing the PTA’s dedication to financial transparency.

Learners who excelled in academics and sports were recognized during the event, highlighting BeSPED’s ongoing commitment to academic excellence and holistic learner development.

During the open forum, suggestions regarding PTA contributions were raised. After thorough discussion, the matter will be carefully reviewed next school year.

La Trinidad Boosts Inclusive Education Through 2‑Day SPED Training

A total of 54 passionate teachers and school heads from La Trinidad just completed a powerful 2‑day seminar‑workshop on “Strengthening Teacher Competence in Handling Learners with Special Needs” held at Strawberry Valley Hotel on January 8–9.

Benguet SPED Center clinched the title of OVER ALL CHAMPION(Elementary Level) in the Benguet Division Schools Press Conference (BDSPC) 2025–2026, earning an outstanding 141 points across individual, group, and school paper categories. The victory reflects the rising excellence of young campus journalists. The three-day conference was held in the Municipality of Kapangan from December 10–12, gathering learners from across Benguet to showcase their skills in writing, broadcasting, and collaborative publishing.

Menzi Bids Farewell After 24 Years of Shaping Young Minds

On December 12, the corridor of Benguet SPED’s ILRC buzzed with laughter and applause as Felicidad Caligtan Menzi, a cornerstone of the school's faculty, officially retired after 24 devoted years of teaching. Colleagues and former students gathered for a heartfelt retirement celebration that honored her profound impact on generations of learners. What began as a simple send-off evolved into an emotional tribute, packed with surprises that left everyone reminiscing about Ms. Menzi's unwavering passion for education.

Adding spice and excitement was the heartfelt intermission number performed by current students. A stirring rendition of "Proud Mary" brought the crowd to its feet. The performances weren't just entertainment—a living proof of her ability to inspire.

Colleagues and former students took the stage next, sharing touching testimonials that painted a vivid picture of Ms. Menzi's career.

The evening's highlight was a poignant video presentation, meticulously compiled from photos and messages spanning Ms. Menzi's 24-year journey. It captured milestone moments—from her being a sports coach, mentor, friend, a mother, and everyday classroom joys—drawing gasps and sniffles from the audience. Ms. Menzi concluded, "This isn't goodbye; it's thank you to all of you who've been part of this beautiful chapter."

As the celebration was wrapped up with photos, the overwhelming sentiment was gratitude. Felicidad Caligtan Menzi may have retired, but her legacy as an educator extraordinaire will continue to light the way for learners everywhere.

Prior to this event, a warm send-off ceremony honored Emmanuel Alida and Dexter Domerez, two other esteemed faculty members publicly recognized for their steadfast dedication and invaluable contributions to the school. Mr. Domerez taught Grade IV, while Mr. Alida guided preschool children with intellectual disabilities.

Benguet SPED Center Dominates Bocce Events in Thrilling Rematch

The athletes of Benguet SPED Center delivered an outstanding performance as they clinched championship titles in both the Bocce Individual Girls,Mixed Doubles and Team Events during a highly anticipated rematch.

Adding to their impressive showing, the team secured 2nd place in the Individual Boys Bocce Event, with Kibungan District taking the top spot. This marked a historic moment for Kibungan, as it was their first time joining the competition. The event also featured strong participation from Tuba District, making the games even more competitive and exciting.

SLAC Highlights Compassion Fatigue, Self-Care, and Heartfelt Goodbyes

“Compassion fatigue and self-care” some of the words stressed by Courage Nissi P. Dumpayan, registered Psychometrician and an alumnus of the school, shared his expertise on Self-care and Emotional Regulation during the School Learning Action Cell (SLAC) session on November 6.

Dumpayan emphasized practical strategies for maintaining personal well-being while supporting students.

The session serves as a continuation of the SLAC series, following last Tuesday’s session, November 4. Ylona Veronica A. Bayod, a registered Psychologist and Psychometrician, led that earlier session titled Creating Calm and Consistency: Effective Classroom Management Strategies for Special Learners. Bayod outlined concrete approaches designed to support diverse learners, including predictable routines, positive behavior support, and collaborative planning.

Participants noted how establishing calm, consistent expectations can reduce anxiety for students with special needs and improve engagement across the classroom. They also learned to value self-care in the workplace as well.

Meanwhile, the SLAC series carried forward its momentum with a warm, gratitude-filled farewell ceremony to honor Ms. Karen Y. Lino, a substitute Grade IV teacher whose adaptability and mentorship had made a lasting impact on students and colleagues alike.

Inspiring messages and testimonials from the faculty members were echoed. As the event concluded, attendees offered a heartfelt gift and wishes, expressing confidence in Ms. Lino’s continued influence beyond the classroom.

Benguet SPED Center Celebrates IPED Culminating Activity with Vibrant Cultural

The Benguet SPED Center held its IPED (Indigenous Peoples Education) culminating activity at the school quadrangle, bringing together students, parents, teaching staff, SLU Psychology interns, and community members. The event featured a cultural program and was graced by Kagawad Wilbert Cuidno of Barangay Wangal as the keynote speaker. SPTA Perry Villena also delivered an inspirational message during the program.October 24.

The celebration began with a short program featuring presentations from every grade level and special education classes. Students proudly showcased their talents and heritage through performances and a parade of traditional attire, where select participants were awarded prizes for their outstanding cultural representation.

Adding excitement to the day were traditional games such as kadang-kadang (bamboo stilt race), bunong braso (arm wrestling), and Davak, a unique contest in butchering and preparing pinikpikan, a traditional Cordilleran dish. Five groups competed in the davak contest, highlighting indigenous culinary skills and teamwork.

To keep everyone energized, boiled eggs, kamote, and bananas were served as snacks, generously prepared and shared to school community .

The event not only celebrated the rich cultural heritage of the Cordillera region but also strengthened the bond between the school and the community, fostering pride and appreciation for indigenous identity.
