John Lindy R. Soriano, CPA, MSA, Department Head of the Accountancy Department at Saint Mary's University (SMU) in Bayombong, Nueva Vizcaya, represented the Nueva Vizcaya-Ifugao Chapter of the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) at a recent regional gathering of Northern Luzon chapters.

Mr. Soriano was elected Sectoral Director for Education of the Nueva Vizcaya-Ifugao Chapter for Fiscal Year 2026-2027. He joined fellow officers from the Northern Luzon Chapters at the Turnover and Oathtaking Ceremony, themed "Honoring the Past, Empowering the Present, Inspiring the Future," held on July 31, 2026 at the Tuscany Hotel in Baguio City.

The oathtaking was preceded by a leadership seminar featuring two resource speakers. Col. Diosdado Carlos D. Pambid, INF (MNSA) PA, Assistant Chief of Staff for G5, discussed critical thinking within the context of a leader's mindset. Dr. Andrew S. Macalma, RPsy, RPm, LPT, followed with strategies for empowering leadership.

SMU Commissions New School Officials, Blesses School Chaplain's Office through Eucharistic Celebration.

Saint Mary's University formally commissioned its newly appointed school officials during a Eucharistic Celebration held on July 31, 2026, at the Mary, Seat of Wisdom (MSW) Chapel. The celebration also honored the outgoing administrators and featured the blessing of the University's new School Chaplain Office, presided over by Rev. Fr. Nemesio F. Huesca, CICM, and Rev. Fr. Philip A. Yu, Jr., CICM. Held in line with the University's Succession Management Program, the commissioning rite formally entrusted the newly appointed officials with their leadership responsibilities while recognizing the dedicated service and valuable contributions of the school's outgoing officers.

During the homily, Rev. Fr. Nemesio, CICM, emphasized that God desires not grand offerings but lives rooted in justice, mercy, and humility. "The Lord has told us what to do; what He requires us is this: To do what is just, to show who we are and how we are, and to live in humble fellowship with our God," he highlighted. Subsequently, the blessing of the new School Chaplain Office was held, which serves as a sacred venue for spiritual formation and faith-centered activities for the Marian community.

A five-year partnership between Saint Mary’s University (SMU) and Sitio Bimmito in Barangay Nantawakan, Kasibu, Nueva Vizcaya officially commenced following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) between the university, the Barangay Local Government Unit, and Nantawakan Elementary School (NES) on July 29.

Saint Mary's University, as a cradle of culture and the arts, proudly supports this year's Linggo ng Musikang Pilipino in response to the Commission on Higher Education's call for higher education institutions to participate in the nationwide celebration. Through the Cultural Affairs Office, the University marked the occasion with a busking event at the Main Campus featuring performances by the SMU Band, the SMU Choral Society, the Marian Dance Troupe, and the SMU Marching Band.

The repertoire highlighted Original Pilipino Music (OPM) in both Filipino and English, featuring songs such as "Nandito Ako," "When I Met You," "Binibini," and "Ikaw Lang ang Aking Mahal," followed by crowd favorites "Gilid," "Jopay," "Tulad Mo," and "Dati," among others.

Also part of the celebration is the release of video presentations featuring Gaddang and Isinay folk songs performed by members of the SMU Alumni Chorale. Available on selected social media platforms, these presentations reflect SMU’s commitment to preserving and promoting Filipino cultural traditions.
