As part of their student legislative simulation, Political Science Sophomores successfully convened the 4th Congress of the SMU Political Science Junior House of Representatives on May 20 at CL 313.
House Speaker Vince Marlou P. Pastor presided over the session, with Deputy House Speaker Sabrina Anne Marie B. Puwoc, Secretary General Shereen Claire Baclig, Majority Leader Cashmere Lorraine C. Ildefonso, and Minority Leader Leira Patricee R. Layno leading the chamber.
House Bill No. 001, entitled โFarmer Income Protection Act,โ authored by Sabrina Anne Marie Puwoc, Ahleixis Divine Salvador, and Janaree Leamar Sesbreรฑo, marked the official commencement of the First Regular Session, which was called to order at 10:00 a.m.
Authors Abby Mhel P. Dulay, Karen Jane R. Gapasin, and Cashmere Lorraine C. Ildefonso sought approval for House Bill No. 002, entitled โPhilippine Mining Act of 1995 and Indigenous Peoplesโ Rights Act of 1997 Realignment Act,โ which advocates the realignment of the Philippine Mining Act of 1995 and the Indigenous Peoplesโ Rights Act of 1997.
Authors Rachel P. Buhong, Jay Lord Yves K. Lunag, and Avril Christine Rombaoa advocated for the rights of minimum wage workers with House Bill No. 003, entitled โCagayan Valley Minimum Wage Increase Act.โ
The second regular session was called to order by Deputy House Speaker Sabrina Anne Marie B. Puwoc. The first bill on the agenda was House Bill No. 004, entitled โPost-Rehab Reintegration Act for Former CICL,โ authored by Leira Patrice R. Layno, James Robert S. Balut, and Norris John Okamoto.
The next bill on the agenda was House Bill No. 005, entitled โNueva Vizcaya Surveillance Systems Funding Act,โ proposed by Ullyses G. Lamag, Ashton Nash G. Romero, and Hans Rafael M. Sarmiento.
Authors Joven Rense D. Absalon, Vince Marlou P. Pastor, and Shereen Claire Baclig introduced House Bill No. 006, which seeks to amend the Electric Power Industry Reform Act of 2001 to integrate nuclear energy into the national power generation mix, establish a comprehensive electricity consumer bill of rights, and provide economic mechanisms for strategic baseload assets.
The third regular session was called to order by House Speaker Vince Marlou P. Pastor. The next bill on the agenda was House Bill No. 007, entitled โStudent Daily Transportation Act,โ proposed by Gwen Lineth Kate C. Lucas, Jasmine L. Ongngad, and Allyssa Mae D. Tabladillo.
Finally, House Bill No. 008, entitled โNueva Vizcaya Jeepney Central Transportation Terminal Act,โ authored by Pohlene A. Libadia, Angel B. Abat, and Lyndon John M. Santos was passed. This was the final bill approved during the session before the adjournment.
The proposed bills mentioned have been submitted to the respective government agencies for consideration of student input in future policymaking.

Political Science students from the Marians Allied in Political and Social Science (MAPSS) attended the 42nd Regular Session of the 12th Sangguniang Panlalawigan (SP) on May 18, 2026, at the SP Hall, Provincial Capitol, Nueva Vizcaya.
The educational visit allowed students to observe actual legislative proceedings and parliamentary procedures, providing them with firsthand knowledge of local governance and lawmaking. The activity shows MAPSS commitment to developing politically aware and service-oriented future leaders.

The Policy Fair held at the SMU Patio last May 14-16 became a platform for Marian students to showcase innovative and community-centered proposed ordinances.
