With the continuous advancement of technology in healthcare and diagnostics, 3rd Year Medical Laboratory Science students concluded their final day of training at Saint Louis University by exploring the field of bioinformatics.
They gained deeper insights into the application of computational tools in biological research and laboratory medicine. Specifically, they expanded their knowledge in DNA Sanger Analysis and Genomic Information, as well as the principles and applications of Transcriptomics and Proteomics Bioinformatics. Through this learning experience, the students were able to prepare for the rapidly evolving scene of laboratory medicine.

On the third day of their Molecular Biology Diagnostic Training, the 3rd Year Medical Laboratory Students gained hands-on experience in key molecular diagnostic techniques.
As part of their 4-day immersion, they performed PCR amplification, agarose gel preparation, and gel electrophoresis loading and analysis, allowing them to gain and apply theoretical knowledge in laboratory settings. Through these, the students were able to develop deeper understanding of the principles and applications of molecular diagnostics.
These activities further enhanced their skills and reinforced the importance of molecular level diagnostics in healthcare.

The 3rd Year Medical Laboratory Science students of Saint Mary’s University embarked on the first day of their educational immersion at Saint Louis University, Baguio City, gaining valuable insights into the fundamentals of molecular biology and diagnostic laboratory practices. ✨🧪
The day featured an orientation on molecular biology laboratory safety and standards, discussions on pre-analytical considerations and proper pipetting techniques, hands-on pipetting practice and return demonstrations, a laboratory tour and equipment familiarization, and a pre-laboratory discussion on bacterial DNA extraction and spectrophotometry. 📚🔬🧬
Through this enriching experience, students strengthened their technical skills, expanded their knowledge, and took another step toward becoming competent and future-ready Medical Laboratory Scientists. 👩🔬👨🔬💙

One of the highlights of their last week in Thailand was the 𝙊𝙧𝙞𝙚𝙣𝙩𝙖𝙩𝙞𝙤𝙣 𝙖𝙣𝙙 𝙒𝙤𝙧𝙠𝙛𝙡𝙤𝙬 𝙤𝙛 𝘾𝙡𝙞𝙣𝙞𝙘𝙖𝙡 𝘾𝙝𝙚𝙢𝙞𝙨𝙩𝙧𝙮, where students gained valuable insights into laboratory organization, workflow management, and the systematic processes that are essential for accurate biochemical testing. This experience strengthened their ability to maintain precision and efficiency in clinical laboratory operations. 🔬💡
Another significant component was the 𝘾𝙖𝙙𝙖𝙫𝙚𝙧𝙞𝙘 𝙎𝙩𝙪𝙙𝙮, which provided students with a deeper understanding of human anatomy. Through engaging directly with cadaveric specimens, they developed practical knowledge of structural relationships and anatomical variations, preparing them for real-world applications in both diagnostics and medical practice.
This week’s activities not only enhanced technical expertise but also fostered critical thinking and professional readiness, ensuring the students are well-equipped for their future roles in healthcare. 🌍
