The Nursing Department of Saint Maryโs University conducted its send-off ceremonyโthe clinical graduation for Batch 2026โon June 5, 2026, at the Rev. Fr. Cornelius Tonus Gymnasium.
The event began with a Eucharistic Celebration presided by the University Chaplain, Rev. Fr. Nemesio Huesca, CICM at the Mary Seat of Wisdom Chapel.
During the program, the guest speaker, a proud alumnus of the university and the current Public Health Nurse of the municipality of Villaverde, Atty. John Warry O. Alvendia, RN, highlighted that โNursing is not merely a job; it is not defined by the uniform we wear, the pay you receive, or the recognition you get.โ
โIt is, at its very core, a story of service, of sacrifice, and of love,โ he added.
He reminded the batch not to see nursing merely as a path to earn high salaries, but urged them to serve with utmost passion, integrity, and accountability, and to be of service to the people on the groundโespecially the marginalized.
A warm highlight of the event was the serenade to the parents, where the graduating Marian nursing students expressed their heartfelt gratitude through letters, flowers, and gifts, honoring the families who served as their ultimate support system throughout their arduous journey.
Furthermore, various awards were presented to the nursing graduates who excelled in areas such as excellence, innovation, communion, and passion for Christ's mission. Among the awardees was Ms. Angelica Garra, the outgoing MNS President, who was recognized as the Most Outstanding Nursing Graduate.
Moreover, a rendition of Taylor Swiftโs โLong Liveโ was sung by the batch, symbolizing their hard-fought victory in this academic chapter and their shared bond as they move toward the board examinations.
The send-off ceremony represents the culmination of the students' academic journey in nursing, serving as a formal commissioning to manifest the core values of a Marian nurse far beyond the boundaries of the university.
