SMU Makes an Imprint on PALT JR History

Pre-service Teachers and English majors of Saint Mary’s University (SMU) joined the recently concluded event of the Philippine Association for Language Teaching, Inc. (PALT): PALT Junior Intensives, last November 25, 2022 at 9:00a to 4:00pm via Zoom.

“The activity is an avenue for pre-service language teachers and majors to actively contribute to a respectful and supportive environment. As participants share their best outputs in the form of lesson exemplars, learning activities, projects, and assessments that lead to insights, everyone is helped to raise their own levels of competence…” PALT mentioned with its program rationale.

The event, serving as an avenue for the participants to share their craft and their outputs in the light of academic excellence and as a venue for sharing and learning, was participated by SMU’s BSED and BA ELS students, as well as their language instructors, together with different students and their advisers from other schools and universities all over the country.

Two presentations on translation were presented by SMU: Film Adaptation, presented by Janna Vanneza Rivera and Lyre Y. Eddamag on behalf of their classmates (with Marites Querol as their adviser); and Native Song Translation, presented by Maybelle Boac, Marinel Villanueva (with Marites Querol as their adviser).

“The film adaptation is a class project from our course: Translation and Editing… We translated the film [Naruto Shippuden] to English, recorded our voices, and edited and transcribed it to make the film.” Ms. Rivera told the description of their presentation.

The presentations were commended by the board of judges as well.
“This project became an avenue for innovation, skills, development, creativity, critical thinking, collaboration, and most importantly, for enjoying and fulfillment.” Ms. Rivera added.

SMU continues to shine in the light of academics and research.
“I can attest that SMU indeed strives for excellency and provides great quality education to learners like me.” Ms. Rivera said.

PALT is an affiliated association by the Languages Department of SMU and SMU’s Junior PALT chapter is the pioneering chapter for Junior PALT. #

The Department of Languages proudly recognizes the academic achievers and entrance scholars of the different programs under the department for the First Semester AY 2022-2023.

Out of the 42 awardees, 9 are Entrance Scholars; 11 are Silver Merit Scholars; 18 are Bronze Merit Scholars; and 4 are Dean's Listers.

All awardees are to attend the recognition program at the Tonus Gymnasium today at 8:30AM. Please be guided by the memorandum issued earlier for further information.

Congratulations, awardees! The department is very proud of you!
