Her achievement marks a strong start to her journey as a Bayaw, bringing pride to the BSABE community as she begins her college journey at VSU.

Turning classroom concepts into practical innovations, students from the Department of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering (DABE) proved that engineering solutions can extend beyond laboratories after earning the Best Technology and Best Pitcher awards during Project LIYAB on July 29, at the RDE hall.
Organized by the VSU Technology Business Incubator (VSU-TBI) in partnership with the Wadhwani Foundation and DEPDev, Project LIYAB equips aspiring innovators with the skills needed to transform ideas into viable enterprises. Throughout the program, participants are guided through the entire startup processโfrom identifying problems and developing business models to building functional prototypes and presenting them before a panel of evaluators. The competition's top five teams are granted full incubation support from VSU-TBI to help refine their innovations into market-ready ventures.
Representing DABE, Team WXB2, composed of Arthur Jay Javier, Francis Jared Rubillos, and Alwyn Obingayan, developed SolaDry, a technology designed to address agricultural post-harvest challenges. Under the mentorship of Engr. Jucel Marie Guatlo and Engr. Feihl Sinon, the team refined both the technical and entrepreneurial aspects of their project, ultimately standing out among the competing entries.
For team member Arthur Jay Javier, the road to the competition was anything but easy. He described the preparation as a demanding process that involved continuously improving their concept, adapting to feedback, and dedicating countless hours to learning new skills and refining their prototype.
โOur preparation was a mix of major pivots, continuous learning, and countless late nights," Javier shared.
Beyond the awards, Javier emphasized that Project LIYAB gave students an opportunity to apply what they had learned in the classroom to real-world problems. While engineering education often focuses on theoretical problem-solving, he said the competition challenged participants to transform those concepts into tangible solutions while developing practical skills.
"Programs like LIYAB give students the confidence to take textbook knowledge and build real-world solutions," he explained.
Their success in Project LIYAB not only highlights the ingenuity of Agricultural and Biosystems Engineering students but also demonstrates how innovation, collaboration, and perseverance can transform academic knowledge into technologies with the potential to create meaningful impacts.
