The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics is proud to celebrate our very own Plant Breeding student and APBM President, Mr. Vergelio "VJ" Balingcos III, for representing Visayas State University in the 2026 AAACU Summer Enrichment Program held at the University of the Philippines Los Baรฑos last July 20-31, 2026.
Being chosen to represent the University is an achievement in itself, but making the most of the experience is what truly matters. Through the program, VJ had the opportunity to engage with fellow participants from different institutions, exchange ideas, and gain new perspectives beyond the classroom.
The DPBG family is so proud of your initiative, curiosity, and willingness to learn. May this experience continue to inspire you as you grow not only as a future plant breeder, but also as a leader and member of the scientific community.
Congratulations once again, VJ! The DPBG Family celebrates this milestone with you, and we look forward to seeing where your journey leads next. ๐พ๐

๐พ Advancing Expertise in Plant Genome Bioinformatics
The Department of Plant Breeding and Genetics proudly recognizes Dr. Jerry Sanguillosa for his participation in the Introduction to Plant Genome Bioinformatics Training held on July 6โ10, 2026, organized by the International Maize and Wheat Improvement Center (CIMMYT) in partnership with SEARCA.
As plant breeding continues to embrace data-driven approaches, strengthening competencies in genome bioinformatics is becoming increasingly essential. Through this specialized training, participants explored the principles, tools, and analytical methods that support the interpretation of plant genomic data and its application to crop improvement research.
Dr. Sanguillosa's participation reflects the Department's commitment to continuous professional development and the adoption of innovative technologies that contribute to scientific excellence, sustainable agriculture, and food security.
Congratulations, Dr. Sanguillosa, on this valuable learning milestone! We look forward to the impact of these new insights on the Department's research and academic endeavors.
